Earthy on the nose and palette, garnet colour, full and long finish, impressive Hermitage.

PnP, slow ox in glass 30 minutes. Should have decanted as there was quite a bit of sediment. Bacon fat, earth, minerals and toasted oak on the nose. Spicy blackberries, licorice, asphalt and espresso on the palate. Silky but present tannins, still integrating. Black fruits, black pepper and spices on the long finish. A superb Hermitage that, if well stored, has many years left at peak! 93+

Has apparent red/orange suggesting age. Big mushroom on the nose, m+ acidity, no tannin, cedar and mushroom dominant themes but some nice residual fruit to add conplexity. Very elegant body. Palate is a little faded but could be storage. Purchased at auction. Very nice fill. Nice deepness to the experience that I really enjoyed. Very nice evolved nose, cigar box, ripe red cherries, nice freshness and tension… Ultra ripe tannins, but also elegant with crisp acidity, ripe strawberries and crisp acidity, very nice!!

Opened and double decanter this one a couple of hours and drank a bit cooler than the last bottle which did make a difference. Still a sweetness to it but better acidity. Fruit is present, cherries and plums. It's an ok wine, will still finish it off.

Savoury, earth aromas with roasted meat, baked plum fruits, blackberry, cola tonic, oak spices and macchiato foam! A broad-shouldered wine with plenty on offer: firm, powdery tannins, the density of flavour and a full body that is underpinned by a lively acidity and savoury overlay. Lots of spice, star anise, tree bark, nutmeg, milk chocolate and dark berries. Still remarkably youthful, the wine has an athletic gait to it, power and tighly-knit. Will need time to unfold further.

Superb drinking. In need of 30-60 minutes of decant. Dark purple in the glass. A great nose. On the palate a good mix of fruit and tertiary aromes of especially leather. Mature Hermitage at peak.

Medium-full bodied, with an earthy, leafy, herbal, olive, tobacco leaf component that rides along with all the stony, red fruits. Crisp, fresh and almost bright on the palate, this is drinking well today.

Tasted blind. Big whiff of peppery cured meat on the nose. Black cherry and tomato on the palate. Lots of roasted-tomato-like tang on the finish with medium tannins. Has mature and youthful qualities — mature bouquet, youthful brightness and tannins. Guess the wine. Syrah. Hermitage. Perhaps the 2001 Domaine des Rémizières Cuvée Emilie.

Faded garnet color with orange rim. Nose includes damp earth, blackberry, dark cherry, stewed prunes, bramble, gamey, chocolate. High acidity, high chewy tannins. Medium finish. Smoother on day 2, more integrated and round. I like the complexity and tannins, but overall nothing special.

Popped and poured. Color is a nice dark ruby through to the rim, with no signs of bricking or aging. Other than the last glass, the wine is virtually devoid of sediment and nicely made. The nose is very enjoyable, with earthy meats, some pepper-licorice, and the scent of bright red fruits. In the mouth, the wine is smooth with just a slight nip at the end. Ruby colored with lightening at the edges. Cherry girotte, mineral, earth, leaf, anise, smoke and herbal aromas are easy to find. In the mouth, the wine is soft, concentrated and at this point, most of the tannins have melted away. The finish ends with sweet and sour cherries. This should age and evolve for at least another 10 - 15 years.

Oak. New oak. It stands out, especially at first. Underneath, it's Hermitage: powerful Northern Rhone Syrah, with red fruits, fennel, herbs, meat, smoke, etc. The fruit itself is great, with emphatic power and balance. With air the oak and its tarry notes recede but its astringent tannins never stop clamping down on the finish. This would have been super without the oak treatment. #beatsdeadhorse

Medium/deep ruby core, medium pale ruby rim. Nose is red fruited, with plenty of spice, so eherbal notes and a hint of smoke. Medium/full bodied on the palate, with slightly sour, spicy red fruit, some blackberry at times, herbal notes, slightly chalky tannins but lovely fresh acidity carrying a good length finish. Quite nice, but not great value at this price.

Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Spicy, smoky blackberry nose, black pepper and sous-bois edge. Medium/full bodied on the palate with soft, integrated tannins, quite rich with spicy black fruits, notes of bloody meat and sous-bois, lifted by attractive fresh acidity carrying a good length, spicy finish. Very good and for me, fully mature.

Tasted blind. Some barnyard on the nose with weird vegetal notes. White pepper, fruit compote. The wine really improved with some air, beginning to show some structure and brighter fruit. I nailed it as a Cuvee Emilie but thought it was from the 2000 vintage. I think this needed more decanting or more time... ultimately it was very nice.

Decanted 1/2 an hour. Medium/deep ruby core, bright pale ruby rim. Nose shows black pepper, blackberry fruit and spice and soil notes. Not much more than medium bodied on the palate, there is attractive, ripe blackberry fruit on the initial attack and a nice bloody, meaty edge on the mid-palate. The tannins are now pretty well integrated and the wine is well balanced and reasonably harmonious, with good acidity, if not overly deep or long. Becomes a little more spicy …

Younger than the previous 2, there is an intensity to the aromas with red plum, blackberry, hot pastry pies and plenty of new oak spices. Rather attractive. This wine is not in its drinking stage now. Completely locked. Very firm and full bodied. Not really nice now. Loaded with sticky tannin. I trust that in due time, this will be a very good to excellent wine, so I don't score it now. Wait for at least another 4 - 5 years.

First bottle was corked, so I opened another. Big, dense, and concentrated. Perhaps a touch hard and inelegant, and not currently showing much, but this is a very good Hermitage that should show better in 5 to 10 years.

Dark ruby core, pale ruby rim. Nose of ripe blackberry, showing some nice development with lots of smoke and some spice. Attractive ripe blackberry fruit, smoke and herbal hints on the palate. Medium + bodied with plenty of ripe, if not fully integrated tannins and a good length fruity finish with savoury notes, and nice balancing acidity.
