Bertram-Baltes Dernauer Goldkaul Spätburgunder

Decanted for three hours in the morning, poured over dinner. Medium garnet colour. Good cherry and mixed berry fruit, strawberry, blueberry, black raspberry, chlorine, smoke, spices, and iron-like minerality, with high, fresh acidity, soft tannin, and very good length. Medium-bodied, with good concentration. Juicy, balanced, and fresh. Consistent on day two. A beautiful Pinot!

12% ABV. Decanted for two hours in the morning, brought to dinner with friends. Great fruit, distinct peaty smokiness, and notable minerality, with fresh acidity. Great fruit, energy and tension.

Very nice wine packed with expressive raspberry and cranberry fruit mixed with smoke and dirt. Great balance and depth and certainly a special wine. Loved it.

This wine, as most other wines from Bertram-Baltes, needs air. Lots of air! Once it’s opened up and lost some of the distinctive reduction it’s a real treat. Fresh raspberries on the nose and a seamingless, fresh character which is very unique for German Spätburgunder. Tannins are super smooth. Finish is lush and longing for more.

Needs plenty of air, still closed down currently. Dark fruited and very very fine almost not palpable tannins, acidity high and demanding. Would not touch until 2026
