No question this is a rich and ripe wine that will turn some off (usually me) but it's really got some unique and delicious flavors of tarpit, blackberry fruit warm asphalt and smoked minerals. The finish rescues the wine with an excellent taut grip of chalky tannins and complex notes of char and coal dust. Not for everyone but for me it remains an interesting and terroir-driven wine despite the alcohol level.

Strong black fruit with nice spice and silky texture. Though the thick and strong new world character is not my thing, this one gets beautiful balance between the fruitiness and complexity with vibrant palate. Such a various characters with chocolate, vanilla, smoke, cigarbox with graceful oak. Needed one hour to get that and after that, just enjoyable.

A very balanced vintage of this iconic wine with rich flavors of dark raspberry compote and black cherry. Texturally, it's quite velvety and smooth with good acidity underneath. The finish is where the action is though with a taut and saline mineral quality to the dusty tannins and complex notes of licorice, road tar and garrigue-like spices. Yum!

I'm a big fan of this wine and I love this vintage which seems to deliver cooler fruit and real terroir character. A really good vintage of this wine and a great time to drink it. There is ripe dark cherry fruit with good acidity and notes of bitter chocolate and coffee. Then the classic Turriga finish kicks in with tantalizing flavors of tar and sweet asphalt. There is also a lovely fresh minty note that lingers on the palate.

Wines to Accompany a Very Grand Barbecue (Alisal Guest Ranch, Solvang, CA) : A favorite bottling which rarely disappoints, and this one was no exception. Youthful and compact, with notes of mocha, a mélange of blue, red and black fruit, some pencil lead and mild herbs. Well-integrated oak and just a touch of VA, which I like and provides the wine with some energy to balance out its extraction and power.

This is a rich ripe wine with delicious flavors of coffee, dark cherry, bitter chocolate and minerals. Voluminous and heady but also light on its feet with a great, taut finish. 85% Cannonau! Erinnert mich an Tannat. Verdammt viel mittelfeines Tannin. Wird sich wohl auch nie voll integrieren!? Intensive rote Frucht und eine gewisse Bitterkeit durch das Tannin. Auch dunkle teerige Noten. Vollmundig! Verträgt viel Luft! Macht locker nochmal 10 Jahre! Vielleicht nicht jedermanns Sache!? Aber wer Tannat (Chateau Montus) mag, der mag auch das. What an amazing wine. Paired with a typical Sardinian dish like �fregola� made me feel the sun from that amazing island. Long in your mouth, fresh, medium tannins. Myrtle bouquet (but maybe was my memory of the flavor), cherry, light tobacco. The world of wine is not just about Bordeaux and Tuscany!

I would describe this wine as rustically elegant; it is a unique and impressive effort. There are plumes of mulled berry, chocolate, and spice that waft from the glass. On the palate this is full & balanced, with tannins that coat the palate, yet has the structure to allow for more aging. Quite nice now; will hold my other bottle a bit longer.

wonderful big blend of cannonau, carignano, bovale and malvasia nera. An explosion of scents at the opening with marvellous notes od smoke spices and vanilla at the nose, palate consistent and more powerful with tannins still there, ripe red fruit and cassis, licorice, dark chocolate. Juicy, fashinating. bitter finish. Still young, has a lot of years ahead. Highly recommended

Very impressive: concentrated and powerful without being at all overbearing. There's leather amongst the red fruit, and there's a definite ferric taste in there too. It's great to discover a wine of this quality from Sardinia; I'd happily serve this to friends rather than a Bordeaux of a similar level - and it's probably better QPR too. Drinking very well now.

Just entering it's drinking window, this wine is a study in contradictions. Medium bodied yet robust and powerful; rustic yet polished and nuanced. Loads of black fruit together with some cherries and herbal notes. Fades a bit on the mid-palate, yet lingers for a very long time. I love it for what it is, but it is hard not to remember what the best bottles in the best years can be.

Having never tasted the Argiolas Turriga before, I was stunned tasting 2004 and 2010 beside each other at a Big Island tasting of the wines of Sicily and Sardenia. Weekend in Rome; 11/4/2011-11/6/2011 (Rome, Italy) : No decanting in this case, but we would suggest a good hour Deep purple, dense colour. Full deep nose, oak notes but in good harmony with the wine and fruit. On the palate full, powerful , dense with good extraction. Lush and although young can be approached now. Sweet core blends well with big tannins. We would suggest one waits 3yrs minimum. 92-93 at the moment as power overshadows elegance.
