Olfactorarily rich and complex. Mouthfeel was full, and palate was rich and deep in fruit layers and tertiary qualities. Sad to see my second and last bottle go. What a producer.

Seemingly better than the previous bottle. Not sure why, but backend harshness was much more subdued. People who shared the bottle even described the finish as sweet.

I appear to be dramatically out of sync with the rest of the CellarTracker wine world on this one. I found it had a very harsh finish that lasted too long. The balance was really off front to back; I think because the Syrah was a bit goofy. On the positive side, there was a lot of plush fruit the mouth entry. Sorry to be so disagreeable, but as they say: "You like what you like, and some you don't."

One of the best reds I’ve had in quite some time. Drink. It won’t get any better than this.

80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah. Rocks District fruit. Dark red/purple color. Expressive aromas of black cherries and crushed stones. The palate is more plum fruit driven with additional notes of roasted herbs, Earl Grey tea and baking spices. Touch of vanilla on the long velvety finish. Wonderfully balanced. With a bit of aeration, this wine is remarkably refined but still quite muscular. Well crafted.

Nose hints at a massive complex wine. Subtle wine tears down the surface of the glass. Big round blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% syrah. Named for Charles Smith's mother Roma Jean, so you know the effort will be there. This is a soul satisfying wine. Perfect to drink right now. Smooth behemoth that can dance with the finesse of Jackie Gleason, but more muscular.

I am not a huge fan of Charles Smith wines, but this one was a very pleasant surprise. Tried a bottle a couple of years ago and didn't like it, but it has developed nicely and I am pleased to have more in the cellar. It is drinking nicely right now.

Nose is black fruit, black olives, and leather. Blackberry, dark cherry, and plums. Ripe but baked by some big tannins. Long, long finish. 80/20 Cab-Syrah. I think this is the first time I’ve had the K Roma.

Drank over two nights with decant. As previous bottle, took a long time to open (over 3 hours). Even after four hours, it felt a bit disjointed. Was better on night two. Still has a lots of time (fruit is not fading).

No decant. Stored sealed in fridge and drank over three days. Didn't begin to show itself until the last glass on day three, with several hours of air exposure in glass. Long life ahead.

Decanted 3 hours and needed it. Massive, brooding beast of a wine. Savory notes follow a fruit-forward attack, with espresso and dark chocolate flavors on the back. Needs time. Drink 2020 - 2030.

A bit of a rush grab, thinking it was Sangiovese (Roma after all) but the Cab/Syrah blend worked out. A lighter Charles but pleasing nonetheless.

WS Grand Tour in NYC (Marriott Marquis) : Had looked into visiting this winery since we’re headed to WW next week, but the statement of creating wines that are meant to drink now made me reconsider. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by this. There is a nice structure to it that I wasn’t expecting. Good for drinking now as billed, but wonder if it couldn’t last a bit longer.

Splash decant. The nose is big, dark and seductive. Dark fruits and licorice. Body is Big and lively, with red fruits, flowers, wet rocks and a little spice. Tart and acidic but there’s so much underlying fruit to balance everything out. Really impressive wine that would probably be even better in a couple more years, but why wait?!

Heritage Wine Event at Boulder. Fruit forward with black cherry and black tea. Others liked this much more than I did.
