The age has taken the roughness off this wine without reducing the overall flavor profile. Smooth fullness in the mouth, strong white fruits with a lot of depth and some viognier spice, but not a lot as it has aged. Apricot flavors with a bit of melon. Long finish.

Found buried in cellar. Nose still has apricot, floral components and white fruit. Palate has become creamier with the balancing mineral/acidity noted a couple years ago now barely able to poke through and arrives at finish as slight tartness. Fruit is very nice, almost complex, but texturally uninteresting.

Nose of stones, flowers, apricots and white fruits. For me the palate was quite nice with a sweet fruit entry, then some lifting acidity to balance out a honeyed/oil component. The overall effect was silky, minerally and highly flavorful.

Saxum/Rhone Ranger dinner with Justin Smith (New York) : Very aromatic with a flavour profile showing lots of apricot, pineapple, musk and spices. Feels out of balance though on the palate, where it's very rich and almost cloyingly sweet with a flabby mouthfeel. Creamy, faintly alcoholic finish.

Justin Smith of Saxum Comes to NYC (New York, NY) : Slightly buttery, oak, smooth. Not for me.

The last and best of the three bottles I had. This one was lush with flowers and honey on the nose (and a little of an indescribable men's after shave). Lovely silky mouth feel with passion fruit/lilikoi grapefruit. In the future I may hold a bottle of this back for aging Condrieu syle.

Delicious flowery aromas of gardenia and beeswax. Rich smooth mouthfeel, with moderate acid, mild lemon curd/rind. flavors are vague and indistinct. Finish is very nice with a little grip and ending where it started with the flowers.

A complex wine with a lot going on. Apricot and tropical fruits on the nose with a bit of vanilla. Similar on the palate complemented by sharp acid, minerals and spice. A bit more of the vanilla, and some background oa. No butter - what's the story on malolcatic fermenation of Copain Viognier? No butter and relatively high acid, so my guess is no malo. I drank this at a local restaurant with sushi - three kinds of tuna, salmon …

The earlier bottle I had must have been off in some way. This one was much better. Crisp, nice acidity, nice white fruits on nose and palate. Well balanced.

Begins with a strikingly beautiful floral and stone fruit bouquet, but the flavors , although delicious, fall flat becuase of weak acidity. The finish is also pretty enough. This wine was best with a good chill accompanying food.

Last bottle of 3. Delicious and classic viognier aromas and flavors (peach, floral), with a little exotic tropical pineapple or mango fruit thrown in the mix. Easy and fun to drink.

This is a perplexing wine, and that is not meant as a criticism. As I check the aroma and then drink it, I am flooded with a cacaphony of different flavors. There is some of the floral, and tropical guava and papaya of a sauvignon blanc, but there is also something very reminiscent of a European botrytis desert wine. There was a side of this wine that reminded me of a Kracher BA. Is it possible there is just a …

Pale straw color. Shy on the nose with a bit of white peach. Nice acidity and crispness. White peaches/pears on the palate, but tasted a bit like "old" fruit (this is not in a good way).

Flowers and peaches. The wine is quite crisp and clean and tastes like spring. Very balanced and drinking nicely.

I'm a bit confused on how to rate this. I think I opened it up when it was a bit too cold still. At first it was very lemon, granny apple w/ hints of grass and melon- but w/ a sharp bite on the sides of my tongue. After an hour it opened? warmed? up a bit and the sharp bite went away, and some butter/cream came in to compliment the fruity acidity. I think I'll rate this an 84, …

Doesn't have the structure and acidity of french Viognier, but still a nice wine. Love the creamy texture.

Crisp and floral, one of the best california viogniers I have ever tasted. Quality wine. Opened up nicely after getting closer to room temp.

Everyone thought that this was all about the fruit... peaches and pears, and not sweetness. I had to agree. Excellent effort.

A very nice viognier. Richer and fuller than a condrieu but with nice balance and a pleasing mouth feel.

A nice bottle of Viognier, somewhat smooth with a bit of an acid bite to it, but there's nothing to really "grab onto" that makes me think "wow, this is a great bottle of Viognier!" It's got all of the pieces assembled in a nice, flavorful package (pineapple, peach, melon, a hint of nuts) but the mouthfeel is front-facing, and the mid-palate is lacking a bit of fullness. The finish is moderately short and a bit clipped. That all said, …

Delicate floral character with very nice stone fruit flavors. Not a lot of minerality, but nice finish that shows a bit of tropical fruit. I got this bottle at the winery and had it with dinner that night. Like almost all Viognier, I'd recommend drinking this young. Kudos to Copain.
