Drak hos Dami med Søren. God balance og godt glas. Fint til prisen, men ikke samme indtryk som Conterno, Rinaldi og Giacosa.

Notes of rose, cherry and faint tar. 14% ABV with little heat thankfully. Opened this bottle young to give it a try and will wait on the rest.

Tobacco, liquorice, strawberry, spice. Full bodied, ripe, sweet berry syrup unfurls in the mouth. A pleasure to drink. Tannins well integrated. Enormous length. Excellent.

Drank in Vail last week. Going from memory of this lovely Barolo. Fairly dark in color, particularly for an aged barolo. Nose of leather, coffee & earth. Medium body, still plenty of black fruit, with solid acidic core, and silky tannins. Notes of coffee, leather, earth and perhaps some truffles. Very complex and well-balanced wine, still showing extremely well. Very enjoyable.

Deeply coloured, tawny rim. Sweet fragrant florals, red and black berries, incredible richness, iron filings, tar, soy, plums. Dark berries, dark spices, pepper, brambly, earthy, fruit compote, fruitcake, beautiful smooth rich flavours. Velvety texture, a long palate, strong but smooth furry tannins and vibrant acidity.

Powerfull and tannin-rich with sweet tobacco, mushroom (porcini) and dark red fruits. Long life ahead but drinks nicely now.

Still a deep dark colour, some sign of brick at the rim. Snappy bright fragrance, sour cherry, plums, roses and dark spices. Fleshy, long and smooth, finishing crisply, with fine firm tannins. Dark fruits, black cherry, blood plums, mulberry. Amazingly after 20 years this is still fruit driven and showing secondary spice and earthy notes as a nuance rather than dominant feature. The dark spices are refined, pepper, tar, graphite, melded with funky earth. Impressive Barolo. This will go a …

White burgundy & Barolo/Barberesco (La Trompette, London) : Blind. Dark, dense. Savoury. Very Barolo on the nose. Dense and fore square. Somewhat lacking in elegance. Not brutal but a little brutish, albeit with a workmanlike smile. Maybe fuller and more modern than most of the previous wines, but the balance is there and in many ways it's easier to drink. Once one gets past the exterior, there's quite a lot here. ****

Mature, perfectly balanced. Although nose is rather tight this shows menthol and leather.

20th Anniversary at La Croix. Wine was absolutely perfect except it disappeared far too quickly. Stock up if can find more.

Took to dinner for a celebration...and it delivered! Cellared since release, decanted for 30mins...DARK and rich berry fruited and earth wine here! Traditionalists would cringe...this drank more like a wonderful First Growth or Super Tuscan. Dark liqueured berry fruit, creme de cassis, seamless, layered, and silky smooth tannins still holding a firm structure to that ripe fruit. Deep and complexing flavors...coffee, new leather, tilled field of roses, truffles, dusty oak barrel spice...enough blood orange acidity to cut...not at all too …

Decanted and served. Nicol who tried this blind picked it as a mid 2000s modern Barolo. Dark cherry, light tar. Not aging that well to be honest and this would have been a lot better 3-4 years ago we feel. A touch of dry tannin on the finish spoils an otherwise good performance. Light touch of liquorice. Solid wine but not great. 90-91

Requires a bit of decanting here to shed bit that sweet oaky note that hovers post opening. Post that its really a beautiful albeit not mesmerizing bottle. Quite a bit of herby nose, menthol, licorice and light under tone of tar. Well round and well evolved on the palate, light earthy feel at times. A shame the oak used here was a bit too much and maybe even overripe grapes. We think the modernist side of this wine that made …

I believe this wine recd 100 pts on release which is when I bought it way back when. It was popped on xmas eve 2014 dinner and unluckily had to compete with some really huge wines and probably suffered as a result. It is a big wine with lavender, coffee and cherry nose. Wet earth, and beautiful silky tanninic structure, cherry and dark red fruits, smooth, silky, someone said mushrooms , someone said black truffle. Thank you Roberto.

Nebbiolo & Pinot (Bar Corvo, Brooklyn) : Unabashedly modernist, yet unmistakably Nebbiolo. Dark mulberry color. Super-concentrated and dense without any undue extraction. Licorice, plummy fruit with a better edge, nutmeg, and earth. Grippy tannins give it impressive staying power. The texture started to fall apart after ~90 minutes of air, but right up my alley until then.

At first, shows the dark side of nebbiolo, but still distinctly nebbiolo, with black fruit and lots of tar. The black fruit is rich and concentrated and a touch glossy, but there's a lot of unintegrated gritty oak tannin that clamps down hard in the midpalate and dries out the back end. With air the nose gets riper and sweeter and less distinctively nebbiolo, and it develops an odd, strong coconut suntan lotion note. Since gritty oak tannin is a …

Drank with Blancos & Marks at Alvins. Decanted at the table. Medium to dark garnet color, though a bit lighter than I had expected. Extremely aromatic, very pleasant nose of blackberries, perhaps some cassis, forest floor and loads of coffee beans & tar. On the palate, very much the same flavors as we found on the nose--wonderful dark, ripe, sweet fruit and overwhelming coffee & tar notes, especially on the back end. Great earthy quality too. This is a great …

Went to a wine tasting of the 2008 and 2009 Voerzio wines with Roberto Voerzio two days ago so I decided to check in on something older today. The 1997 brunate has beautiful pure fruit. The finish is good and there are still substantial dusty tannins left to resolve. Will be a great wine in 5-10 years. Hold.

Decanted for an hour before the dinner. Color: the one you could expect from a Barolo of this age and this tipology. Nose: a little reticent initially (that's the reason why I decided to decant, an operation that I generally tend to avoid). Later in the evening, classic Barolo nose with a lot of spices, rose, tar etc., all with supreme elegance, but sort of retained, it never exploded as in my previous experiences with Voerzio, Mouth: got the "sweetness" …

Dark red color with a hint of orange at the rim. The nose is packed with cherry, roses, and spearmint. In the mouth, there is dusty, cherry fruit, strawberry, earth, and spearmint. Structurally, there is great acidity and moderate tannins throughout. The finish is long and packed with fruit while fading into an earthy close. Overall, this is a well made wine with excellent fruit matched with structure.

BYO Italian Wine Dinner at Dino (Dino Restaurant, Washington, DC) : Tasted blind. Seemed very young and primary with high acidity for the first 20 minutes, but then it settled down amazingly well with food and you could really catch on to the earthiness and meat deep in it a lot more - and more so than its peers in a 9 bottle tasting. Was happy to see my instincts were right in that this was just too young but …

Opened, double decanted and let it breathe for approx 30 minutes. Dark color with only slightly lighter color on the brim. The nose was really powerful with licorice, leather, dark berries and autumn leaves. Powerful mouthfeel and the taste confirms the aromas. Very nice acidity (more than what I'd expected from the 97 vintage). Quite a lot of tannins. Long! Still some touch from the wood treatment, which I guess will integrate in some years. This wine still needs more …

Drinking well at this point, but relatively tight the first night. Appealing, ripe nose of blackberries and rose petals. This is more delicate than I expected. The second night (left on the counter as an experiment) it was not oxidized at all, but smoother and rounder than originally. I'd say this has 5-10 years of life left. Very nice wine.
