La Colombaia Ripasso della Valpolicella

My Grade: VG. Unmistakably Old World and makes no excuses for it. Inky Purple in the glass, tight nose with hints of dried plums, dates, leather, black pepper, cloves. On the palate: cranberry and sour cherry,black plum, burnt toast, cloves, prominent, unyielding, tannins, well balanced acidity, short, slightly bitter finish. Probably needed 3-4 hours more air. A wine to perhaps respect for its uncompromising character now, but should soften up a bit in years to come.
