Aromas bursting out of the glass. Prunes, cherry, tobacco, leather. Quite surprised how aromatic it is, could just sit and smell it all evening. Smooth on the palate with well integrated fine grained tannins. Minerals, raspberry and black cherry dance together and intertwine in a long lingering finish. Drinking perfectly. Time has been kind to this wine, and to me this evening. Wonderful!

Cork in excellent condition. Quite dark red. Fullish body. Still showing tannins, with fruit in the background. Better the second day.

Strong blackcurrant on nose. As it opened up, had black cherries, blackcurrant and a mint-herbal character. Long finish. Balanced and drinking nicely, has some time left but no real reason to wait.

Excellent. Drinking wonderfully now. Great example of aged Cali Cab. Grill a steak and pour!

Decanted for 30 minutes prior to pairing with boneless ribeye steaks. A dark ruby in the glass, with lightened edges. Pure blackberry liqueur on the nose, with some sandalwood. Initial taste, however, with blackberry covered by a good dose of secondary loamy mushroom and asparagus, along with bright acidity. Briefly, however, for within 15 minutes this shaped up very well, largely dropped the secondary characteristics, gained in structure and weight, and showed beautiful, rich (but not overripe) blackberry and blackcurrant. …

I liked the Ladera; great nose, better balanced than when younger.

Interesting on first night--but seems to have lost some of its sparkle. Limited fruit left. A little bitter, but not overly. Still worth trying a bit more to explore the layers that are left. Certainly an astute maker.

The last of these, and it's drinking a lot better than a couple of years ago. Approachable on opening, it is more feminine than many Napa cabs. Elements of the nose remain a dead ringer for Cuiron (sweet leather). Midweight on the palate with a hnt of the bell peppers mentioned by others, but for me that note blows off fairly quickly. Just a hint of bitterness on a still tannic finish leads to the impression of a clipped finish, …

A nose of warm minty fruit, particularly blackcurrants. Nice herbaceous elements. Big green bell pepper notes. Hints of coffee. Tannins are still firm and somewhat grippy. Really nice integration. Dark berry flavors. The finish is a dusty berry. This is in a really nice place right now. Would be curious to see how this drinks in about two years.

94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 22 months in new (54%) and 1 to 3 year old (46%) French oak barrels. Tasted at the winery back in 2007 together with the '02 and '03, and liked this one the most. Will hold until 2012.

Similar to my note from 12/2007, though this bottle appears to be more approachable immediately after opening. Though again, it does take a bit of time to smooth out some initial harshness and develop some secondary character, the most notable of which is a sweet leather I had also noticed in previous btls.

Aromas of prunes, currents, tobacco and coffee. On the palate prunes, raisins and currents lightly blend together creating a nice interesting palate. Finish is a tad tannic and short, but overall a nice wine.

I had a mixed reaction to this wine. It is a rich, flavorful wine dominated by black cherry flavors and drying tannins. Based on my first couple of tastes, I expected it to open up and become more integrated after some air time. However, it never developed in complexity and remained a bit short, and very dry, on the finish. It still seems slightly young, but I am not sure that it will improve with more time in the bottle.

Aromas: Dried tobacco leaves mixed with chili peppers, dried cherry, coffee and a nice dose of dark chocolate. Taste: Complex midpalate created by a layering effect of different varieties of cherries, prunes, cedar and chocolate. The mouth is coated with soft medium grained tannins that have softened since that last time I drank this. The finish is a little dusty but ends nicely. Decanted for three hours. This is not a big fruit forward heavily extracted california cabernet but rather …

A tale of two wines. On opening - tight, closed, unattractive...virtually undrinkable. Put away...Day 2 - a very pleasant wine of with perfumed cassis, dark fruit and oak. On the palate, fairly well integrated fruit and tannins that finish up just a bit short.

Though the description says "Big"--I didn't find it so. Not necessarily a bad thing. I found it round and moderately long and perhaps the tannis are settling. Falls off rather unspectacularly. Good fruit but not overwhelming if not a bit understated. More mid-weight to light/heavy weight cab. Easy to drink but pricey from that standpoint.
