Wittmann, Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling GG, Rheinhessen

Kirchspiel Vertical (@Terkel) : Pure and clean apple flavor with a fresh and wild acidity. Has a nice touch of minerals. Loved it.

Wittmann Kirchspiel Vertikale 2000-2016 im Concept Riesling Ich bin kein Wittmann-Spezialist. Aus diesem Grunde freute ich mich umso mehr auf die Einladung von Flo, an dieser einmaligen Vertikalen bei tollem Essen teilnehmen zu dürfen. Die Flaschen 2000-2003 waren direkt aus Philipp Wittmanns Keller. Getrunken wurde nicht blind. Balancierter als 2003, aber nicht mit dem Druck ausgestattet wie der „Hottie“. Gelbes Steinobst mit etwas Honig und Limette. 91

Best etter åpning. Blir litt slapp og anonym med luft. Kanskje noe over toppen..

Litte grann petro, men først og fremst frukt i retning mandarin. Ren, men samtidig kompleks lukt. Frisk i munnen, med svært god fylde for en riesling uten at den mister eleganse. Vokser i munnen. Mangler litt av det bitterpreget i avslutningen som ofte karakteriserer Rheinhessen, men det dukker opp med litt luft. Lite å hente på mer lagring.

Very similar to my previous tasting note of a year ago, but no carbon dioxide this time. The mineral energy, balance and nuance are superior to any of my previous bottles and accordingly I am scoring this one point higher. Effortless elegance paired with real intensity. At perfect peak.

Hint of carbon dioxide on opening. Elegant, mature but energetic, lithe, lively acidity, mineral, retains some of its ripe peachy fruit and blends it with smoky, waxy notes, hint of coconut, good flavour intensity, very good length. Survives 24 hours in the fridge very well. Very attractive now and should have a few more years in it.

Waxy and minerally, lovely weight of fruit, lively acidity, very good length. Is showing more staying power than many other 2005 Grosse or Erste Gewächse.

Ripe citrus and lemon, intense spicy minerality, tingling juicy acidity, broad, deep and weighty. Excellent length. The comparison with the Keller Kirchspiel is inevitable but not to the point; this is a very good wine but is does not share the Keller's magic.
