Denavolo Catavela Emilia IGT

Orange wine with a very present, slightly artificial orange flavor (remember those St Joseph chewable tablets?) and a borderline carbonated yeasty mouthfeel. Acidity shows into a finish a tad too tannic for my liking.

A little yeasty. Funky, if you're into that sorta thing.

Fascinatingly aromatic, largely due to Malvasia, with orange blossom, bruised apricot skins, and minerals. Barnyard and a touch of sulfur add to the rusticity of the nose. Nice complexity on the palate, colored by tones of apricot, citrus oil, and some nut elements. Unusual aftertaste reminiscent of a floral, yeasty English ale. 3e Salon du vin en tête (Le 104, Paris, France) : Malvasia de Candida aromatica, Ortrugo, Marsanne et Trebbiano, quel menu ! Par-dessus cela, une macération pelliculaire qui donne à la robe une dorure marquée, comme la tradition ancienne des blancs secs italiens le voulait. Le nez est déroutant, entre impression de douceur et celle d'oxydation. On reste sur un vin léger au palais, une entrée de gamme agréable.

Strong fruits on the nose, along with spiced apple, cider, orange blossom, clove and herbs. A very unique bouquet (at least for me). The finish was dry and not very complex. More apple cider and orange blossom on the palate. I think this wine is excellent for the price.

Apparently no Dinavolino or Dinavolo made for this vintage (2011 = L11 on label?) but same grapes have gone into this supposedly "lesser" wine. Less concentration but still a lovely, fresh drinkable orange wine.
