Garmon, Ribera del Duero

Ung, fruktdriven doft av mörka plommon, björnbär, hallon, skoputs, blod, choklad, lakrits, vanilj och ek. Ung, ännu lite ostyrig balans mellan höga syror och torra tanniner i en medelfyllig kropp. Välgjort!

Superb Ribera. At its peak but no hurry.

Robe foncée. Joli nez sur les fruits noirs, des épices, un petit côté floral. En bouche il y a du volume, une belle aromatique, les tanins sont fins. Un joli canon!

Needed more air to really show. Well balanced very enjoyable drinking.

This is a delicious Ribera del Duero. Expressive nose of dark fruit, violet and subtle French oak. Wonderful palate, good concentration and length. Reminds me of Monteabellon Crianza only much more refined. Garmon 2017 still has some tannins, but is in a good spot now. We had it with venison steak, a great combination. Decanting is advisable, since there's quite some deposit in the bottle. Doesn't need air, though.

Elegant, weich jedoch taninreich

Fira Dismavi 2023 #1 (Tempranillo) : The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. It smells like blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, black currant (cassis), prune, plum, forest floor, mineral, toast, oak, vanilla, clove and meaty. The body is full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. Comparison with San Roman Toro, this one has higher acidity and fresher notes of the fruit, also less colour intensity.

The Garmon is a Tinto Fino (aka Tempranillo) from Ribera del Duero. The wine is made from 30-100 year old vines and aged in French oak, instead of the American oak, which has been historically obligatory in Spain. It is darkest ruby in the glass. On the nose and palate, black cherry, oak, vanilla, and chocolate. This is a high-alcohol, full-bodied fruit bomb that's probably 10 years from integration. Considering its pedigree, I was expecting much more for around $75/bottle.
