You got to know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em. Yep, waited too long on this one. Too big to drink.

This wine has always been one of the more attractive from this torrid vintage. The high proportion of Mourvèdre may have helped. Colour still quite deep and the nose showed dark fruit and flowers laced with bloody meat. The palate was fuller bodied and more structured than in most vintages, fruit was quite dark having lost much of its youthful brightness but in compensation there were rose tinted aromas and touches of tar and herbs leading to a firm finish. …

91 Tanzer, 92 Spectator (for those who care) 65% Mourvedre, remaining split between Syrah and Grenache (mostly). Biodynamic. Putting Cairanne on the map. Silky with great weight; warm stone doorstep on the nose; brilliant fine-grained fruit and a little roasted meat. Black currant, touch of blackberry, etc. Exceptional wine and not bad pricing...worth every penny of the $30 shelf price.

Still tannic and fairly dense. Colour obviously showing its 10 years. Needs more time, but with this sort of wine they still need a bit of tannin for structure. I still have 11 bottles and I'm not worried. I will have another look in a couple of years. This wine still has body and some minerality. My cellar is cool which retards aging.

Dark-colored Rhone blend. Made from 60% Mourvedre and equal parts Syrah and Grenache and aged in demi-muids. Aromas of black and blue fruits, lavender and violet. Flavors of blue and black fruits, violet, pepper and smoked meat. Pronounced tannins, but well balanced with a silky texture. Very nice.

I'm sorry, no flavor in this wine at all. It may have been good at one point, but after 2 bottles, a waste pf $60 between the two.

Has this wine improved since I first purchased it back in 2005? I don't believe so, but it seems just as good. Perhaps the fruit might be fading somewhat. I would say it seems a little more dark and brooding than it did six years ago. This wine could easily pass for a mid quality CDP and it seems to have the tannic structure to make it down the road a few more years.

Cloudy with serious indications of TCA. I have 2 more to go from the same source, so I hope it wasn't a storage or handling issue.

Deep and smooth with no alcohol showing but not much acidity either. This wine is clearly in an adult stage, maybe early middle age, with expressive mature Mourvedre and nice Cairanne terroir in full effect.

This is really something special in Greenblanket’s humble opinion. The bouquet of this wine rocks smoke, ripe red and black fruit, garrigue, spice, and awesome gamey/animale notes all underlain with an interesting stony minerality. The palate is open and just as character filled as the nose. This wine is drinking beautifully right now and has the structure to go on and on. And this from a freakish vintage? Outstanding.

ce vin toujours très charmeur est une belle réussite dans le millésime 2003, toujours ces arômes de fruits noirs, un vin généreux, riche et savoureux. 89-90 pts

Southern Rhone Tasting February 24, 2007 (Seattle) : An interesting lesson here as two of us brought the same wine to this blind tasting. One had been opened several hours longer than the other and was a bit cooler to begin the evening and it received the lower rating from the group. Both wines showed beautifully featuring attractive red and black fruit, some lovely funque, game, and garrigue with strong elements of roasted thyme. This wine was big but sleekly …

Wild blackberry, sage and smoked meat on the nose with a deep concentrated palate and a long beautiful finish with very fine drying tannins. This is a lovely wine that offers the southern Rhone character that I love wrapped up in a sleek elegant package. Beautiful.

Oh Boy, here's another delicious discovery from my excellent friend and noted Rhone geek No Spit. This Cairanne is a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, and 20% Grenache. The 70 year old Mourvedre certainly sings here. The nose combines black fruit, some red characteristic of the Grenache, Provencal spice and just a bit of tar. The fruits are wonderful on the palate without being too ripe or sweet - wild Mourvedre blackberries and grippy Grenache fruit along with just …
