Domaine Bertagna, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Les Beaux Monts

Dark translucent ruby. Nose of delicately pungent dense cherry pits, earth, soaring violets, damp cellar. Layers of resolved, silky raspberry fruit cut with fine iron and subtle earth on the satiny palate. Fresh acidity and filed off tannin. Long finish of red berry, ferric notes, and echoing earth. Lovely.

Notes essentially the same as 2 years ago. A very stylish mature wine, still fruit dominant, but with a soft earthy edge. Blueberries and dark cherry, seamless throughout. Definitely has another decade in it.

This had a really well sealed cork; the nose was tight initially and took about 60 minutes to really get going; showed still fresh red fruits, some Vosne spice, a bit of earth, but mostly still with fruit and floral notes. Good concentration, maybe a touch rustic with the tannins, but good with food. Based on this bottle certainly no rush.

Perfect cork and level, this was great, vosne spices on the nose, very resolved tannins and actually drinking well but obviously on a slow but obvious decline. Drink up.

1982 vintage

Good deep dark colour. Vibrant fragrance, earth and dark berries intertwined. Dark cherry, just a hint of cherry stone zest, a soft whole bunch spice. Fleshy, velvety texture, finishes with silky tannins and good acidity. Blend of red and black cherries, blueberry lift, on the darker side but with a brightness to it. Earth and wild herbs add complexity but fruit dominates. Lovely intensity, mature flavours but still mostly youthful. Delicious.

Decanted for 45 minutes. Opaque dark ruby. Nose of light red berry, beef blood, earth, violets, camphor. Velvety and soil-inflected layers of red raspberry, mulberry, iron granules, and brambles on the palate with a hint of holiday spice. Four hours in, the fruit achieved a kind of bell-like clarity. 2002 vintage

Another excellent Chevaliers du Tastevin bottling. It is a mature wine, with loads of tertiary nuance. The nose has plenty of woodsy, mushroom/truffle things going on along with some Asian spice, smoke, pine needle sap and freshly tilled earth. It is sweet and vinous in the mouth, with a lacy texture that caresses the gums. There's a gentle flex of tea leaf tannin on the finish and length is good.

deep, tannic, but approachable. Dark berries style vosne. Earthy. May be not too elegant, but there is no vanilla oak or lots of chocolate as other notes below say. Good but not excellent stuff

Inky dark and deep red, loads of unctuous chocolatey fruit, more flashy modern style. Next to an '02 Dujac 1er MSD the Dujac was much earthier and "Burgundian"... Still lovely

Some vanilla and red fruits on the nose. Tannic, acidic and pure ripe red fruit profile on the palate. Would love to revisit this one in 10 years.

Popped and poured. Some red fruit but borderlining figs, dates and all sorts of christmas. And the palate has some hard acidity. I was a bit undecided about whether it was over the hill. Definitely drink up.

Sweet spicy cherry fruit on the nose. I decanted it for 1-2 hours and kept it around 16-18 degrees. Fully mature but drinking well. Not complex but enjoyable. It had slightly high VA that deducted a bit in the overall picture. The palate was a mirror of the nose. It performed best when kept to the cool side. A good experience. A good but not great wine.

1983 vintage

Popped and poured. Pristine cork. Dark ruby color. Nose of black raspberry, vanilla, licorice, earth. Palate characterized by brilliant, primary, luscious red berry and plum fruit. Unfortunately the oak overlay was strong, and got stronger through the evening. In the end, it was a notable wine spoiled by its oak signature. Too bad.

Wow, GORGEOUS deep dark fruit, balance, spice, earthy chocolatey notes. Exotic spices swirl in and out. Developing beautifully.

A very shy but I think potentially strong wine. Hints of sappy fruit, iron, and spice. One blind taster guessed NSG from a more recent vintage. Hold.

Get hints of flowers, cherry, and underlying sweetness, but it's otherwise shrouded in tannin and closed for business. Maybe a touch of VA as well? Hold for 2 on the early side, but likely longer.
