This was better than my last bottle. A wine to sit and taste and realize how different it is to other wines. However you than have to work harder to make it enjoyable. Tight and a little harsh. This is at the end of its drinking window.

Not as austere as some of the other TNs. But this is at the end of its drinking window if not out of the other side. Fruit and tannin well integrated with a tad bitterness of a wine getting ready to die. Aglianico is so hard to get at the right age and without the big rusticness and tannin. This isn't quite right, but also not terrible. Good to compare with other Aglianicos.

Very austere, even with some air, but a firm tannic structure, and a "real" earthiness gives this some character, I just wish there was a little more fruit to balance the tannins

This wine did not appeal to me like I had hoped. The color was not a brilliant as I was expecting, the taste had a lot of wood in it, it had some spice but mainly was just not inspiring. It will be consumed, no question, but not worth the price by any means. Keep going if you encounter this wine.

minerals, earthy - like playing in a sandbox w/ a toy dumptruck. raspberries, black cherries, oak. dark chocolate. really tight at first, but i thought it began to open up nicely. did i mention dry? i love the combination of minerals, chocolate, fruit and oak, as i've found in aglianicos, so this wine was right up my alley, but to not play favorites, i give it an 88.

Terrific wine: black cherry, earth and mineral finish. Firm structure nicely rounded out by touch of suave sweetness.

I loved this for the price ($14). Earthy and rich, but not over the top. Some dusty tannins, but well balanced.

Very nice, earthy with spices, burnt, rough richness. Medium to full bodied.

Drank my last bottle and found it just as good if not better than the one before. A great wine, more simple and rustic than a Barolo, but with the same kind of delicate aromas over a hearty structure.

I tasted this wine a few months ago, and liked it, though it was closed and appeared to need cellar time. My basement got warm in July, and I decided to drink whatever was not in a cooler, which included this Tenuta del Portale. What a transformation. This time, it was not closed at all. The wine is rustic in style, full bodied, with firm tannins and acidity. The fruit (dark cherry, plum) is ripe and intense. But there are …
