Absolutely rocking stuff. A little tight right out of the bottle, but was signing after 2 hours in the decanter. Quite youthful appearance, tons of fruit and structure, lots of complexity as well. This is really excellent stuff, and an overachiever for the vintage.

As before. Definitely had plenty of life left. This is great now but might actually be worth waiting 3-5 years for the next one

Decanted for 1 hour; moderate sediment. Deep crimson color with some browning at the rim. Delightful flowery nose of cherries, blueberries and spices. Full-bodied rich fruit on the palate, well structured by soft tannins and acids. A quite long finish that leaves a smile on my face. Overall a very nice wine with a good QPR at $80.00. Probably should drink within the next three or four years.

Same as before. Fruit has enormous power, though the tannin is pretty loud still. Better after 24 hours open which suggests that some aging will do it some good.

Tasted blind. My palate must be off because I called this a Barolo (twice in one night). A noble wine with great depth. One of the better Barolos that I've had (or at least I thought it was a Barolo. Mahogany wood on the finish.

Tobacco, leather, graphite, cherries, well integrated tannins, and a long finish.

This is starting to get into the zone. Pretty open, but not advanced yet, this seems to be at the beginning of its drinking window. Beautifully perfumed, with notes of smoke, cigarbox, tobacco, graphite, cedar wood, some dark and red cherries, plum, the oak has integrated nicely, there is also some leather and menthol kind of notes with some more air. It‘s medium-full bodied, with excellent persistence, it has medium+ but very silky tannin, there is pretty high acidity and …

Comte, roasted nuts, ancient oak chest and bitter blackcurrant and cherry. Tannin still has a hefty drying kick through the mid palate. This is coming along really nicely, in a vintage that no one really seemed to say great things about. Testament to the power of these wines. Well worth aging as I think this will continue to develop nicely.

This was very tannic at first, but became admirably drinkable after 4 hours in the decanter. This is a dense, full-bodied wine, almost more like a super-Tuscan than a classic chianti. A dinner guest, tasting it blind, guessed that it was Flaccianello (an even more expensive super-tuscan styled Sangiovese from Fontodi). It was very popular with our guests -- I would have rated it higher if it had more balancing acidity.

Slightly less interesting than the 2010 from a few months ago, but still solid. Complex aromas of cherries, cedar, leather and notes of tobacco. Significant depth and length. Can be enjoyed now or still be cellared for another 5-7 years without any problem.

Silky and delicious. The best Fontodi I have ever tried. Deep ruby. Pronounced. Perfumed, violets, ripe yet bright concentrated red fruit. Sweet spices and balsamic. Vanilla and cedar. Complex. Med+ acidity. Med+ tannin, ripe. 15% abv but so fresh you don’t feel it at all. Balanced. Long. Outstanding. NB: 100% old-vine sangiovese from the del Sorbo vineyard 24 months in French oak barrels. Certified organic. Natural cork.

Decanted 1 hr and I would have preferred ALOT more airtime. Ok, lets see if I can do this justice as this is my first VdS since the wonderful 06 I have been enjoying over the last decade or so. In short, this wine is a beast. While I can see that some might find this a bit much, as the the structure is very imposing, I for one, greatly enjoyed drinking this, but be sure you have some type …

Big and bold. Decanted for 3h and still some bite. Think it will benefit from some more time. Nose of underripe dark fruits, muschroom and pepper. Linear taste, dark fruits and tanins.

Fantastic, again! Ripe tart cherry, clean nose, little graphite and long, long finish with big, big tannins. 3 hour decant at least. Would be great with heavy acidic meal! Just well made and quality!

Another fantastic bottle of this. Decanted 2 hours before, this is showing explosive aromatics of dark and dark red cherries, plums, graphite, smoke, some leather, menthol, sweet spices, cedar wood, cigar box. It‘s full-bodied, powerful and dense, with medium-high tannin that is very good quality and superbly ripe, as well as high acidity providing freshness and tension. Long finish with excellent complexity, precision and layer over layer of aromatics. Year after year this is one of the benchmark wines of …

An interesting artisinal project from this benchmark Tuscan producer: 100% sangiovese that's spent 12 months on the skins in local "orci" clay vessels. Yields a cherry, spicy sangiovese expression with the mealy, chalky tannins that are sometimes the product of amphora aged wines like this. Definitely worth a try if you can find it.

SALONE DEL GUSTO 2014; 10/26/2014-10/30/2014 (LINGOTTO FIERE TORINO) : Sangiovese "Dino". Primo anno di produzione, 12 mesi di macerazione sulle bucce e affinamento in anfore di terracotta. Zero solfiti.

Medium ruby color with pale meniscus; fresh, focused, tart cherry, savory, subtly floral nose; fresh, silky textured, round, tart cherry, tart raspberry puree, mineral, violets, rosehips palate; a Burgundian Sangiovese; ready now and should go 5+ years; long finish (made in clay amphorae with no added sulfites)
