This bottle was very fresh and delicious, showing lots of complexity and no signs of fading. Not a wine I’d want to drink a bottle of, but very fun to have a glass.

This bottle lacked the intriguing complexity, acidity and minerality of the previous bottle from the same source, perhaps due to the cork having fallen into the bottle at some point. It’s perfectly sound but too linear and simple. Not enough energy to make it very interesting. Still, remarkable that any white wine can be very much alive at age forty-one.

This is a remarkable wine and not just because of its age. It was a recent purchase from a Christie’s auction and I was later told it came from an excellent Oklahoma cellar. Through the clear glass bottle the color looked pale but once in the glass it was distinctly gold and may even have darkened as it breathed. The first sniff and taste were disappointing. Too light, too slight, not much going on. It needs to warm up. Then …

maybe its the birth year or just that this is a delicious wine. Wine was in superb shape. pop and poured and didn't need any time to strut its stuff. A bold wine with lots of exotic tropical fruits. very balanced and good acidity for its age. I actually think this wine can last another 5 to 10yrs easy.

Clearly fading. Not much fruit of interest going on here. The was simply, simple, lacking in intensity and complexity. Drinkable, but if there was another choice available, I'd prefer the other bottle.

Tasted blind, but afterward revealed to be a pristine bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. This wine had a funky off nose and took several hours to come around. Afterward, it displayed lemons, vanilla, and some marzipan. In the mouth, this wine was ripe but very crisp and focused due to the strong acidity. Not surpringly, it had great length but maybe left one hoping for a bit more out of a great wine at …

A private dinner at a friend's (Amsterdam) : Paired with Haut-Brion Blanc 1984. Light and lemony colour; incredibly fresh and youthful, so intense and elegant, lemon, perfectly harmonious and balanced, a marvel of energy and intensity, very compact and tightly wound, mineral, linear and precise, flavours of wax and lemon; excellent length. Stunning!

Drank with OT, SOLID, Fantastic old world bord nose, hints of graphite, violets and a touch of gravel. In the mouth the wine was complex and had terrific secondary layers of tobacco, chocolate and a little cedar. This particular bottle was in superb shape, the only problem was my glass was empty rather quickly.

PnP from a friend's very good looking 750ml bottle. What's not to love about a 35yo white Bdx that has "just (according to us CT'ers) entered its drinking window"?! Just splendid. Deep, rich, straw color. Clear and pure in appearance. Nose of lemongrass and a hint of honeysuckle. Having never had this wine in any vintage before, I had no frame of reference against which to judge just how far past peak this might be (if at all). Surprisingly fresh, …

Another (great looking) bottle from this lot showed a yellow (hint of green) center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose featured green melon, apple, vanilla, lime and just a touch of nutmeg in the background. In the mouth this is ripe with lovely balancing acidity and excellent length. This was great from the first pour, then tighten up a bit, and then open back up again with a couple hours of air. It won't blow you away with power …

This great looking bottle with a nice light color got us excited. Unfortunately, it was corked.

From the same batch as the last bottle, this wine looked great with a bottom neck fill. It had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed wet stones, wax, almond paste, and some honey. In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with bright acidity, excellent balance and great length. There was also an additional melon flavor. This wine is in great shape. While it won't get any better it probably won't get any worse …

From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a bright, deep yellow color! The medium intensity nose displayed crisp apple, almond paste, ginger, and wax. In the mouth, the wine was awkward when first opened. After an hour it showed very little flavor. After 2 hours it showed bright flavors (as noted above), great balance, richness, and excellent length. While this will clearly last for a long time (great storage) I see no great incentive to wait. Enjoy!

Bordeaux v Burgundy event (The Square Restaurant - London) : Holy moly - this is a serious wine that needs to left alone in the glass for 20 minutes to let the aromatics come out and tickle the nostrils. So so so so restrained yet complex in an understated way. Lemon oil, grassy notes and some sweet honeyed notes that build up into a whisper of quality. Grrrrrrrr.

Haut Brion v La Mission (The Ledbury, London) : Paler, leaner, sharper than the 82 and 83, an acrid edge, amazingly fresh, high acid, bracing and exciting, but a touch behind the other two I felt

Haut Brion, LMHB at the Ledbury (Ledbury) : Pale gold - younger in appearance than the 1982. Finer, more delineation here with more lemon, citrus character and less bruised apple. Resolved, with great balance between acidity and intense flavours. Long -. Very fine indeed.
