A very fun bottle of wine to drink. As others have reported, it opens with a mere whiff of its potential. The nose may have some floral scents, the viscous and dark body yields spice and berries, some weird tannins that don't really work, and a mediocre finish. This is a $100 bottle and worth it. Nose of black berry, plum, allspice, and forest floor, same on the palate, big body, opened slowly throughout the evening, elegant, subtle, mouth filling fruit, an iron fist in a velvet glove, better nose the second night, more cellar time might help here but delicious now, and a long, flavorful finish.

PnP and wow ! The Clos Du Val Hirondelle is simply put a great wine delivering blue fruits amidst a low viscosity juice. Reserved aromatics do not define this wine as there is minimal nose. On the palette the wine excels and achieves accolades from me. In mouth flavors of ripe plum, blueberry dominated fruit and yet a watery mouth feel which is an incredible expression.

What are the odds, we opened the same wine on the same vintage in the same tasting on the same flight!!! And they were different because of the decanting time. Cassis at first, then the vegetal side came up, made people think of Chili or Argentina. Great stuff.

Very nice surprise coming from CdV. Black appearance and powerful nose of cassis and dark red fruits. Some mineral and old school cab chalk too. Palette was great with similar profile and a little tight even after a couple hours open. But deep flavors of fruit and earth, wonderful stags leap fruit. Bought a few bottles and gonna lay the others down for another 1-2 years. All the critics were right on this with 95 point scores.

Very seamless velvety tannins, dark and blue fruits, high precision, heady acid. The wine is fairly well balanced and made in a manner that can be very enjoyable today with a one to two hours of decanting or for many years later. This wine is a restrained beast. It is not anywhere near its drinking window yet. Huge tannins - mellowed a bit with air contact. Nice acidity, intensity, depth, and length. It has everything it needs to go for two or three decades. If you're planning on drinking it in the next five years I would definitely recommend decanting for an hour at least.
