The reserved nose needed at least an hour to open up a glimpse of its aromatic profile. A prominent bouquet of old leather, tar and dried leaves with ripe black plums and eucalyptus underneath. Quite an old world nose. The palate showed more spicy fruits from entry to finish. Rich, rounded and persistent. Full bodied with a good deep and hot finish. Still going strong and will continue to hold for at least 3-5 more years.

Deep inky red, a little reserved to the nose. Bold dark plummy fruits and controlled tannins. A masterpiece.

Nose of stewed fruit (cherry, plum, date), with hints of nutmeg and clove. Palate shows powerful flavours of blackcurrant cordial and cassis. There are pleasant hints of oak, star anise, and mint, though they're mostly overpowered by the intense fruit. The mouthfeel is thick, with a touch of glycerin. The intense fruit is partly balanced by firm, strong acidity and faded, powdery tannin.

Nose of raspberry, bay leaf, anise, and cardamom. Medium-to-full-bodied palate, with a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Rich, bright, tart flavours of raspberry, anise, blackcurrant, cola, with sweet hints of mint and cinnamon. Tannins are smooth and faded, but still provide a firm backnote of bitterness to help balance the powerful fruit and bright acidity. The alcohol feels like it's probably strong (it's labelled 15%), but it stays in the background.

What a bargain. Paid $18 at auction. Worth much more. Still drinking beautiful and will easily last another few years. Secondary flavours well in control on the nose but fruit and tannins provide good balance and structure.

Unusual and complex nose of mostly plum and chocolate with some anise and hints of butter. Very little tannic structure remaining, otherwise no indication this has peaked. Full bodied with a rich and silky mouthfeel. As close on the palate to an aged Napa Cab that any Aussie wine has shown to date. Thick cherry flavors mid and forward palate, which last throughout an elegant finish. Paired nicely with slow cooked beef stew.

Big, bold wine and drinking at its peak now. There isn't enough natural acid or tannins left for this wine to improve further. Drink up whilst it's still got the fruit.

I agree entirely with michelvl about this wine but don't think it will hold until 2015. I will be drinking my remaining bottle in 2013.

What a beast, PQR and continued development of the flavor and nose are hard to beat. Consistent with my first note and leaning towards 93.

A formidable creature. At 15% alcohol, this dark purple wine has a complex nose consisting of plum, berry, spice and bitter chocolate aromas, it is balanced and has a hint of sweet oak. It’s full bodied with ripe flavours and a rich very long finish. Will peak 3-5 years from now and will drink well till 2015.
