Medium-deeper golden color. This is wide open and peak-drinking. Notes of ripe grapefruit, some smoke, chalk, steely minerality, also some white peach, flintstone and citrus, also some lemon oil, too. It's medium-full bodied, dense and very aromatiic but also showing high acidity that cuts through everything. A very unique, saline, mineral-driven Riesling full of tension and character. It still feels still young, even at age 13 and from this warm vintage. Amazing.

Popped and poured. Rich, complex aroma includes pear, lichee, floral notes, among others. Distinctive, mutable mix of flavors on the white fruit/mineral spectrum but with a tingly kick of sour citrus underneath. Intense, lingering finish. This is incredible, drinking beautifully, with plenty of life left. While there's no reason to wait, there's no reason to hurry either.

I found this wine in the cellar without remembering buying it. I was thinking "uh oh! Did I missing the drinking window?" The answer is no. The wine was fresh with good minerality and fruits. It drank so young! It was perfect with lemon-rosemary roasted chicken.

Light gold yellow. Amazing fresh in the nose: white peach, quince. Good minerality, fruit, freshness and a hint of salt i on the palate. Not at all matured, no hints of age. Tastes like a five year old Riesling. Really great stuff.

Light to medium yellow color. Very agreeable nose with some earthy spice, ethereal notes, fennel seeds, hints of anise seed, slight floral notes, apricot and some peach. In the mouth, it boasts an impressive minerality, it's rather on the high side of the allowed residual sugar scale, not completely dry, chalky mouthfeel, agreeable acidity. Good length. Excellent.

Paler golden color. Still pretty austere for a 2009 Pfalz Riesling and takes a few minutes to open up in the glass. But once the aromatics have opened up they offer notes of smoke, chalk, cold steel, also some white peach, spices, flintstone and citrus, also some lemon oil. Medium straw color. Explosive nose of minerals (flintstone, chalk), some fresh apple, citrus and some smoke. On the palate there is tons of saline minerality again, as well as some fresh citrus notes, sour apple and also a a touch of smokiness. It's medium-bodied but very dense, with high steely acidity and a very good finish with tons of minerality. This is a breath-taking Riesling that's all about freshness and minerality. Apricot, apple and cinnamon on the nose. Richer and denser overall than I was expecting. Much more expressive chilled as opposed to cold. Lots of exotic fruit flavors, real roundness in the mouthfeel and great balance between the fruit and acidity. Finish is a real strength and certainly has the acidity and structure to last. This is a different style of German riesling; perhaps not for everyone, but I thought a wonderfully different bottle of wine.

Weingut Pfeffingen is one of my favorite estates in the Pfalz region, but the 2009 collection could not really convince me. The ‘Weilberg Riesling Großes Gewächs’ has a beautiful green-yellow color and a huge nose of aromatic fruit including peaches, apricots, lemon zest and quite a strong touch of honey. Nice, elegant Riesling fruit on the palate, but I would have liked a tad more concentration and weight. It is also a bit too sweet for my taste ; good …
