Wagyu Dinner (La Maison J2) : Double decanted a couple of hours before service. Notes of cherry, red berry fruit and spices. Cherry compote and red pinot fruit on the palate, nicely ripe, with a nice vein of balancing acidity and a wonderful silky/velvety texture. As it breathes in the glass it develops that wonderful Gevrey gaminess. Deep clear ruby in color. Very expressive aromas of crushed dark red berries, florals, hint of game and forest floor and spice on the nose. The palate shows great balance of power and finesse with sweet dark berries, good acidity, subtle spice and soil and a stony/floral finish. This 2005 is drinking great.

This is the last of ten bottles of the 2005 Pierre Amiot purchased from WineAccess back in 2008; all were from Morey St Denis or Gevrey and were either Village level or Premier Cru. In general, the purchase and this producer were disappointing given the price. Lovely expression of Pinot here. Red and blue fruits, surrounded by delicate layers of complexity and detail. Savoury flavours trump the palate, but the balance of fruit and acids and oak is seamless and elegant. There is a iron/mineral element to the wine which forms the base of the expressive palate. I'll update this note if anything changes, but while medium bodied, balanced and correct, lacking in flavor interest, terroir and elegance. Could have been a Givry or Mercurey for all I can tell here. Not a bad wine, if you pay $30 and not $80.

Cork popped about 3 hours before consuming. Delightful stuff. Attractive pinot aromas, and a deliciously pure expression of pinot, in a medium bodied style. Still primary, but well balanced and looking good for the future.

Very good color, rather dark and pretty. Open nose of black cherries and cola. Once in the mouth, it's obvious this wine is very fruit-driven, fruit-forward, like many 2005 red Burgs. Decent length. So far, so good. But it's too tart for my palate even if the acids are pinot sap and not artificial. Very one dimensional at this stage and nothing to suggest it's Gevrey. Enjoyable but not remarkable and too generic.

Nose: pencil lead and orange zest, hint of barnyard (deep and complex). Focused style of fruit, pencil lead, mt. rainer cheeries, citrus zest with the barest amount of citrus pith. Very well balanced. Hold for at least another two years.

Beautifully crafted. Elegant, balanced and complex. Game and dark fruit on the nose. Floral with a clear expression of the earth. Really came to life after being open several hours. Layers of fruit and tannin. Medium to full bodied. Lovely wine. Enjoyed with Thanksgiving dinner. We all felt this was too young, but nevertheless was enjoyable. Dark cherry, mineral, wotn for me.
