Mas de Daumas Gassac Réserve de Gassac

Turns out I've had this wine twice before. This tasting largely in line with the 2011 sample; muted fruit, a bit muddled, sandy fine tannin. Not out of step with red blends from the region. Good length from the tannin. Seems to have some life but not one to improve.

I'm a bit confused. A year ago I called it too young for optimal drinking but now not so sure. Cab driven, lightly fruited and minerally, but the fruit be a touch underdone as there's a certain un-ripe tone coming through. Slightly pongy finish. Would up? Maybe but I'm not sure the stuffing is there.

Drank far too young. Seems light in build early but builds through the palate. Fresh red berries on the noise points to cabernet. Flavours are hard to pick; minerals, river stones, light pepper and burnt wood, more red berries. Primary flavours are light but they are wound up with young age. Give it another 5 years.
