Domaine Ostertag Sylvaner L'Exutoire SVV3

My first Sylvaner. I loved their Riesling, so I approached this bottle with high expectations. I like it, though I do have some reservations. It’s vivid, wild, exotic, and rich. With my limited experience with this grape, I’m not entirely sure how it compares to other Alsatian Sylvaners, but this one certainly feels quite experimental. Looking forward to trying more Sylvaners.

tropical w a tiny bit of residual sweetness

faint gold color. ripe pineapple, banana candy, some mango, a bit of honey, and limestone on the nose. good acidity and medium bodied palate. tastes like a less ripe pineapple with some vegetal notes. finishes sour. very similar to prior tasting 2 years prior.

Like a fluffy cloud wrapped in razor wire. Sumptuous nose of tart apple, pear, and almond. The front of the palate has a prickly acid attack, while the middle and back roll into a minerally softness, with an undercurrent of dry mead. A mineral finish grips the tongue for some time. Fascinating and utterly unique, though not so delicious that I'm likely to buy again.

This is a Sylvaner from old vines apparently in the Nothalten area of Alsace. The back label says this has "18 mois de fermentation" which I don't really understand, except perhaps they mean very extended lees contact? Mid yellow colour. Kind of ripe and musky on the nose, maybe a bit of subdued tropical fruit as well- something in the pineapple range, which is actually more obvious on the palate. pineapple and mineral scents. medium bodied with high acidity. fresh and a little bit glycerin. tart, creamy, citric, vegetal. pineapple flavors as well. perfect with with indian food.
