Giant Steps Pinot Noir Tosq Vineyard

Classic Pinot nose with cherry, earth and a hint of stalkiness. Sadly the palate seems to lack some of the flavour intensity and distinctiveness of the nose. Acid is good without seeming too high, but there's a slightly unpleasant sourness. Ok but just not great.

This is starting to soften out and improve. Early bottles were a bit green and stalky. Wine is fleshing out nicely. No hurry to drink to remainder in my cellar.

Significantly better than previous bottle, a good decant likely helped. Ripe cherry and raspberry but with nice fresh tartness. Firms tannins give good texture. Good stuff this time.

Slightly stewed cherry and raspberry; acid a touch sharp but tannins smooth. OK but nothing special. Tasted next to the '18 Giant Steps Primavera and the TOSQ was looking a little overripe and a bit simple; Primavera definitely the better wine.

Almost a pop n pour… Dark red cherries prominent, savouriness, slight dustiness of dried green herbs lingering out he background, medium acid and a little grip from the fine tannins. Very inoffensive and I enjoyed this a bit more than I recall but still a tad underwhelmed, despite it going well with roast charcoal chicken tonight.

A foursquare, quite blocky Pinot. Lacks finesse, any complexity. Maybe the very hot year had something to do with it. Nothing like the quality and style of GS Yarra Pinots. Disappointing

Pity that this was my last 2 bottles. Very pleasant and smooth wine.

A bit astringent - beetroots, cherry, plum, mushroom, grainy tannins. Enjoyable but prob not worth the price tag

Good few hours decant. Unsure about this one. Not a lot of primary descriptors. Acid a tad high. Long drying tannins. Out of balance, doesn't quite integrate and roll over the palate as one. Inoffensive obvious Pinot, but I want more for price.

A full bodied Pinot with a smooth finish.

Opened and poured and left in the glass for 1 hour. Attractive nose of red fruits (squished), spice and an earthy/beetroot undercurrent. Palate certainly has a stewed/rich red fruit character to it but (just) keeps within the "not too flabby" lines - although does seem to be a little "dry red". There is a chicory almost bitterness to close and the tannins assert themselves a little. Good, perhaps very good, but no more.

17yo vines , good mix of clones Colour med dark ruby , purple hues, pink edges she’s bright and clear 15/15 Nose med intensity dark red fruits cherry plum raspberry , dried herbs- thyme ,mushroom ,savoury , good florals providing a nice lift ,developing complexity 27/30 Palate med+ bodied flavours follow on from the nose dark red fruits cherry raspberry plum earth and mushroom , balanced acidity throughout the palate good mouthfeel ,long velvety clean finish 41/44 Overall Well made …

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.) : Giant Steps Pinot from NZ. Here again the grapes are transported in cool storage back to Yarra to make the wine. This is light and soft and a bit pretty with some red floral and red fruits. A bit pricier than the Yarra Valley single vineyards and I wasn't totally convinced.
