Just to repeat my previous note this is magnificent, and so under radar. I think that 1985 for some reason was the lost vintage of Bordeaux. This is tertiary and magnificent, and such value for money. Following my previous experience I decanted this for 6+ hours, and extended aeration really makes a difference. Tasting notes are as previous. 96+

This is a perfectly resolved and elegant 41 year old Bordeaux. There is still plenty of fruit remaining to go along with the tertiary flavors. The acidity is in balance. The body is medium to full. It was drunk side-by-side against an '85 Beychevelle, and this wine had a slightly bigger body. One can get another decade out of this wine, but it's at its peak now!

What a glorious bottle of wine this was, laying down its life in comparison to one of its younger brothers from 2015. But wasn't a sad death at all. If anything it was the 2015 brought a little sadness because it laid down its life far too young. For this bottle, its time had happily come. As part of my continuing effort to drink down my cellar, some good friends (2 of them somms) and I get together, share a …

Sampled at a vertical tasting and this was the oldest and best of the lot, in my opinion. Still displays a surprisingly medium-dark purple color, with very little bricking at the rim. The nose belied a wine that is totally integrated and approachable at this point: great blue fruit, tobacco, and cassis create a rounded profile, now that the tannins are sanded down. There was surprisingly little secondary scent on the nose, none of the graphite earthiness I would have …

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this was decantered and stoppered, but could not be drunk for another 48 hours. It was game changing compared to my last tasting. Every rough edge had rounded, and it was fully tertiary and liquid velvety the palate and finish. It knocked the 1982 Mouton I had last night into touch. The nose is its Achilles heel, showing signs of over stewing, but that could be down to its 2 days in a stoppered decanter. However, …

1oz. Taster at K&L Wow! I can understand the aged Bordeaux appeal, this is different than anything I have tasted. Fruit is starting to disappear but I’m getting worn-in leather, wet stone, smoke and truffle.

Had it side by side with the 2000 Pichon Baron. Both were double decanted. The Baron was a bit more developed, while the LB was more precise. It had great structure and lots of life left. Both wines were incredible but i preferred the LB.

Deep garnet. Aromas of cassis, tobacco, blackberry, roasted almond, smoke and tilled soil. Grippy and rather young mouthfeel. Dry coarsely grained tannins. Blackcurrant acids and coffee bitterness. Palate of bramble berry, cedar, cardamon and forest floor. A rather mature and elegant wine with berry fruit, elevated acidity and a fine spicy finish. Drink within 10 years. Tasted alongside Ch Cos d’Estourel 2004 and the matched wine was muscular and bigger whereas the present wine was elegant and full of tertiary …

Wonderful, textbook Medoc with tertiary complexity around forest floor, medium bodied palate. Elegant, refinded. The 2000 vintage for Medoc Grand Crus has now - after 25 years - reached its peak and will be drinking well over the next 15 years.

This is a good deal riper than the other vintages of the '90's and very chiseled and regal in structure. The tannins are still tight but this wine seems to have everything it needs for a graceful future but it's not fully integrated yet. 94+ At NY Commanderie Dinner, Union League Club.

This showed quite well and is a lovely and fairly mature vintage of LB that's long on terroir and elegance if a bit short on fruit. Medium-bodied and nicely layered with flavors of graphite minerals and Pauillac smoked earth. Finishes smooth and fairly complex but I would drink up before the fruit fades further. Served alongside Ch Figeac of the same vintage at a regional 1985 40th anniversary horizontal tasting. Another thrillingly intense wine, this bottle had a lot of Pauillac lead in its pencil and like the Figeac its fair share of green (pepper) notes - what a glittering career this wine has had and based on this bottle it has plenty thrills more to impart over the coming years

This opens rather austere, and slowly gathered some depth over 3-4 hours of decant and drinking. Tightly defined with subdued fruit, this definitely needs food to be appreciated. Dark berry fruit, medium length with a chalky, somewhat chunky, finish. This really doesn’t resemble any Lynch that I have had, probably due to being an off year. I agree with others that one wonders if there is enough fruit here to age any longer.

Cork pulled without issue revealing crusty sediment along the neck of the bottle and business end of the cork. Gorgeous cranberry when first poured that morphed into a red currant core by the time the wine was poured. Red currant, plum, cigar box, truffle, saddle leather, cedar, and graphite on the nose. It just keeps offering up more. On the palate more of the same in layers of flavor and a delightful roundness. Finish of mocha. Sediment remains at the …

Nicely balanced, with a beautiful tartness on the finish. Reading through the tasting notes, some claim this is big and burly while others do not - personally I found it to be on the lighter side (not a bad thing). Maybe this will hold but I don’t see it getting much better.

Decanted for sediment and served immediately. Consumed for my 40th. Was the WOTN among a nice crowd of 85s (LLC, Pichon Lalande, Cos). Incredible balance of dark fruit, savory and tertiary flavors. Some wonderful leather/saddle funk that I find in older Lynch Bages. But just the right amount and not over whelming, which was more the case for the 85 Cos. All this while maintaining a moderately long mouthwatering elegant finish. Really a special wine that should be consumed in …

Tasted from double magnum, the 2000 Lynch-Bages initially seems to be lacking a little oomph - then it pops with a full-fruited, almost slightly jellied cassis, mineral, pencil, and truffle nose with a smoky, slightly burnt wood aspect. My scores for the 2000 have been gently trending down over the years, but this bottle from large format recaptures its glory. 93-94

Yes, there's plenty of impact and fruitiness on the nose but this feels a bit burly and inarticulate, monolithically fruity rather than complex. This seems quite richly fruited on the whoppingly tannic palate but paradoxically there are no layers and the finish runs away quickly. Importantly, this was served in a horizontal tasting at a dinner so if this has any secrets it's keeping, we may have missed them. Followed for perhaps 45 minutes.

Nose: Cedar, blackberry, mint, and a bit of VA. Burly style of bordeaux with more of a woodsy kinds of demeanor than nearby vintages. Palate: This remains a bit hard with stricter tannins than the other wines, but it is "sturdy old Bordeaux" as many noted at our table. Palate has dark berries, mint, wood and some garden vegetable notes. Finish: Pretty closed finish, and on the more tannic side. Either needs time or some more toothsome foods. Boston, MA …

Nose: Dark berries, cherry, graphite and leather. Nice interplay of red and black fruit. Perfumed rather than fat, and showing nice development. Palate: Giving a slightly toasted note, dark berries and cassis. More pencil shavings and glossy fruit across the mid-palate. Finish: Remains polished and rather like the 2005 with softer edges. A classic Lynch Bages. Served from 3L

Fully mature, the viscosity and colour complimented its 40 years. Cedar and bell pepper are very forward on the wine, but with lovely notes of red berry and cranberry. It is well balanced with good length, but harsher notes on the finish slightly inhibit the experience. However, a highly recommended wine, and in general I am a great fan of 1985 Bordeaux with their full maturity and better value.

Splash decanted. This was rather dark in color. Perfect fill and cork. Dark fruit profile, with a hint of over ripeness or extraction on the nose, with strong espresso and back current notes. Just a hint of tobacco and leafy herbs. Palate is rather clunky and heavy, strongly tannic turning austere on the finish. From half bottle with 1.5 hour decant. Smooth with ultrafine tannins. Cassis, red currant and pencil shavings, followed by more red fruit accents. Vibrant acidity gives it lots of energy. The color of garnet on the rim and a deep, opaque core of ox blood grabs the light. Initially, the bouquet delivered red currant, plum and graphite. The initial taste delivered the same across a brightened palate. Following decanting, the wine seemed to close down a bit and never delivered the “brightness” sensed on the initial taste. The mid-palate and finish were a bit muddled. The fully resolved tannins skate across the palate and the mouthfeel is gorgeous, but there …

71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. !5 months in oak barrels - 70% new. Made in the era of maximalist ripeness, time has helped liberate subtlety and complexity her. Beautiful nose and follow through.
