This is my 5th or 6th bottle. Good as ever. Black fruits, smoke, cinnamon aromas after opening. After about an hour, cherry, cigar, leather, and pepper on the palette. Smooth tannins. It kept evolving throughout the night; after 2-3 hours, coffee/chocolate began to show. Great QPR at less than $30. Fantastic way to appreciate aged wine: tertiary flavors, evolution in the glass, and variability among multiple bottles.

App: deep ruby with garnet rim. Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of dark plum, meaty, dark cherry, chocolate, candy, herbals. It’s developing. Palate: dry, medium plus acidity, high alcohol, medium plus tannins with grippy texture, full body, medium plus flavour intensity with notes of chocolate, black tea, dark plum. Medium plus finish. Drinking really well right now. Slight bricking on rim. Out of the glass jumps plum black fruit cassis leather vanilla. On palate plum cherry black fruit cassis vanilla earthy with nice smooth medium tannins and acidity and a nice long finish.

The nose has lots of blackberries and dried currants, as well as some clove and a hint of mushroom. The palate is very well balanced between fruit and tannin with a good core of acidity to carry it. The finish is medium with the cloves carrying through. The wine will still age well for a few more years but is showing beautifully right now.

So good and great after 3 hrs of decanting. Tannins were still tight when opened. This still has a number of years in it. Lots of cassis dark cherry vanilla cigar box juniper. Really enjoyed with prime rib and warm potato salad with bacon.

Decanted half an hour - lovely smell of vanilla from the bottle. Raisin smell on the glass. Taste immediately exhibited well integrated sence of strength and elegance. Lush mouthfeel and round tannins that did not need any air to soften. Immediately approachable at this time. Warming however gave smell of alcohol and still some heat on the tongue. Remainder of bottle will be tasted tomorrow. Really enjoyable day 2, even day 3..

Deep dark purple. Spicy nose with cinnamon and dark fruit. A gorgeous fruit filled palate of dark fruit, prunes, licorice, plenty of tannins, full bodied, long finish. Very young.

Destieux 2010 - St Emilion Grand Cru Classe - My favourite wine of the year. This has been my go to wine in the store to make sure everybody want to part with at least something. This is incredibly good and one of these needs to be opened and experienced with your friends when you receive it. This is dark, full body and bold. It must be the % of the blend that gives it so much structure that it is unlike your regular right bank Bordeaux. Took at least 2 hrs to get it going. Strong forward tannins in the first hr and totally unrefined. Nice fruity nose though. It opens up on the 2nd hr and but you can still feel the heavy mineral and acidity swirling in your mouth.
