At Boston Wine + Poker, Newton, Mass.: Tasted blind. Very light color, almost a rose, but high intensity. Smells older than it tastes. Lots of tannin. Same appealing combination of lightness and intensity on the palate. Others identified this as Pinot Noir, but I was distracted by the tannins.

At almost 15 years, much easier to like than '08 Chezeaux vaucrains had last week. Deep maroon to rim, fuller body, more fruit, more body, better acid balance, more integrated tannins, very moderate stoniness. Nothing out of place. Suave and intoxicating enjoyable. At peak for my taste.

Deep maroon color. Lovely cherry on palate with first pour. Became seriously balanced and drying with 60 minute decant. Enjoyed immensely throughout 2 hour dinner. Medium to full bodied, long finish. 13.5% alc.

Very nice, lovely cherry on the midpalate, a little edge in the acidity, a little St. George stoniness, does that pretty, bendy Burgundy thing. No sign of the slightly burnt flavors I've encountered in some 2009s. Balance is quite good, nothing to distinguish this as a warm vintage wine, except a decent volume of ripeness (but in good counterpoint with the acidity). Excellent. I have some Boudots from the same vigneron which, I'm looking forward to now with anticipation.

This had a very attractive nose - classic nuits. The palate was thinner than I would have expected for the climat and more tart than I would have expected for the vintage. As someone else said, this drinks more like sn 08. Drink or hold. 90-91

Decanted, initial notes from just afterwards. Cool nose, showing blueberry and a touch of sawdust/pencil shavings/ash, with a hint of earth in the background...doesn't really say Nuits to me. On the palate, red and black fruit, showing some woody bitterness and a rather drying finish. Apparently these wines see 30% new oak, and the rest used (all in small barrels). After about 30 min open and as it warms, significant improvement. Day 2: this is so much improved from yesterday...wow. …

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ : See through dull crimson with pale rim; cinnamon, spicy, soft but penetrating red fruit, young; softer fruit, sappy, cherry, red fruit, sweet, sappy and putting on weight; this reminded me of '08 Burg; definitely improving.

Medium red with faint rose hues and clear in the glass. Primarily red fruit with some violet, vanilla, and pine notes on the nose and palate. Open, but tight. Firm, and crunchy, but not foreboding. Simple and straightforward wine. "Excellent" for its focused and precise layers of red fruit. Expect this bottle would have softened with time, and perhaps gained some complexity. As it was today: 90-92pts.

An interesting tale of two very different bottles. The first was much as another reviewer notes - it was quite nice but lacking in fruit. The second was quite a bit better (and 2 other tasters with me noted exactly the same) - fruit was much more present though the character of the wine was there. This wine paired beautifully with a wide variety of food and is one that I will happily revisit.

Suffers from too much oak. Not sickly sweet oak, but drying oak that sucks out the fruit. I tend to find that great pinots just suck up new oak which makes me worry that this wine lacks the fruit intensity to ever come right. 13.5% cork

Day 1: Cherry liqueur, wood spice and iron on the nose. Light to medium bodied with low to medium acidity. Baked black cherry, crushed rocks and baking spice. A bit tight and oaky at the moment. This needs lots of time. Gassed and refrigerated overnight. Day 2: Better. Oak is less obtrusive and the palate is softer and silkier. Will give my remaining bottles 10+ years.
