Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Nightlight Red

75 minute decant. Nose of wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry with a hint of lemon peel and pith. A bouquet of red and purple flowers starts the palate followed by a rush of acidity then hibiscus, roses, and tangerine. Caressing tannins lap at the remaining acidity, with minerals and a tart cranberry ending. Perfect with duck as Hardy recommends! Score got lost in the enjoyment of it, evidently.

The spice! The wine is the spice. The spice is the wine! Seriously, this is an amazingly spicy wine, and not oak spice. It’s open air market spice. Beguiling!

Some reviewer called Hardy a "vine whisperer", and this Nightlight Red is a perfect example of why. Who else could assemble something so light, deep, refreshing, interesting, and engaging wine from such a disparate and motley assemblage of grapes? This is everything I love about Extradimensional wines. Popped and poured, then followed through an evening. It was good from the first sip, and developed nicely. Can't wait to see how it does on day 2.

1.5 hr decant. A delightfully light expression of three varieties (Mourvèdre, Carignan, Zinfandel) not always associated with gracefulness. This still had tell tale smokiness and a sort of corned beef cured tone that offset the extremely fresh blackberry scents and tastes. As with so many of EWCY! Wines, there’s a lovely low viscosity and solid acidity that gives this a trademark lift. At the same time this went extremely well with burgers and melted Gouda. Score: 92. PnP into Grassl Cru. Nose draws you into the glass with bright, ripe blue and blackberries. Similar profile on the palate with characteristic freshness and relatively light body that I associate with Hardy's wines. Drinking well on PnP and better after 30 minutes or so of air.

Balanced and beautiful after a 1 hour decant. Strikes a really nice balance between freshness and depth; high tones and low. Just as good on night 2. Wasn’t able to save any more for day 3.
