Goodfellow Family, Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge

A quite elegant wine that is drinking beautifully now but you need to give it ample airtime, which will be richly rewarded. A good 2 hours should do it.

Tasted on day 2. Pretty tight on day 1. More open on day 2. Crunchy cherry fruit. Some black tea spice. A bit of mushroom. Light floral.

A pretty wine - pale translucent red in the glass but also pretty in its presentation in the mouth. Feminine and light but with a firm core. Drinks very young on opening, not quite so much 18 hours later but still quite young. Should leave this be awhile and patience will be rewarded. Warm strawberry with a touch of crunchy rhubarb. Transparent garnet. Nose is floral and sweetly red-fruited. Palate is very alive, almost medium in body. Red fruit, lightly tart red cherry, raspberry. Showing a bit more acidic structure than fruit, will give it some air.......update loading.....Yep! 90-120 minutes of air and it's better. Very nice bottle of wine.

This is really excellent. Staring to think this might be my favorite Oregon Pinot producer but I love Vincent too. Pulled the cork 30 minutes before dinner. Red Chambolle fruits dominate. Especially strawberry. Nice high acidity and long, lingering finish. The flavor layers of red fruits dance on your tongue. You don’t want the bottle to be empty so you slow down and savor the experience. Wonderful.

Tart red fruits with some whole cluster notes and slight clove. High-toned and light, just what I'm looking for from Goodfellow. Not too fruity at all and quite transparent on the palate. I've had great luck with young Pataille but today I preferred this more.

3rd favorite in the blind tasting. Pine nuts, raspberries, spice, minerals and red currants. Light in color and in body. Very elegant and like it.

Tasted after 1 hour of air. Crunchy cherry fruit. Some green tea spice. This still needs time. Tight. Should be better on day 2. Still a solid wine that should be great for years. The late great Bob Wood would have enjoyed this.

Dried red fruits and fresh green herbs on the nose. Has perhaps a touch more body than the ethereal Heritage #21 - this comes off as more grounded. Some essence of negroni. Doesn't seem as open as the bottle I had 6 months ago; potentially closing down for now.

This has moved on nicely over the three years since my last bottle. Lovely bright transluscent strawberry red. Bright and attractively ripe strawberry fruit on the nose, similar on the attack. Sweet strawberry, a hint of slightly sappier cranberry for some line, nicely plump mid palate and a decent finish. Not hugely complex but really quite fun and a lovely drink. Beautiful nose of strawberry, raspberry and winter spices. Light and very pure on the palate with red fruits and great minerality. Great core of acid and lighter but firm tannins. This was still young but in a great place for early drinking. 92+ points

3rd wine of the night with friends and so PNP. Dark ruby color. I’m always impressed with this wine. So much so I just bought some 2022. Red Chambolle fruits of strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, cranberry & cherry. Very well rounded and full. Coats the tongue in a pleasing way. You just want more of it. This is one of the best Oregon PN’s made IMO. Excellent.

Decanted 45 minutes. Light color but quite flavorful. Feminine & Ethereal. Wonderful. Red Chambolle fruits dominate. Drink with food or by itself. Buying more from this producer.

Potpourri (dried rose petal), candied flowers, dried raspberries. Great density, supple texture, well-balanced. Showing well now but its best days are ahead; happy to have a couple more of these for aging.

My first experience with Goodfellow and I'm impressed! This bottle was PnP and open for business. Highly perfumed and very floral on the nose. Rhubarb, pomegranate cherry and blood orange and cherry on the palate. Some pleasant green, herbal elements hiding away. No obtrusive oak influence. Didn't change much over the 1.5hrs we consumed it with dinner. I'm curious how this will evolve with age. This producer is now on my radar.

Utterly beguiling nose of flowers, crushed berries, and incense. Seems like everything's been squeezed up into the midpalate by the wine's back-end structure: there's tons of depth and density here, even though the (very precisely drawn) flavors are largely high-toned and red-fruited; and I wouldn't call it shut down, but even with a couple of hours, the very fine tannins on the finish remain pretty unyielding. As usual I planned poorly and rushed a first glass from Coravin - shut down with little to write home about. A quick glance at prior notes suggested a 90 minute decant so I poured a second glass and waited. Much improved / raspberry nose, cola and rhubarb, long finish. Wish I had decanted 90 minutes before grilled fresh coho with asparagus and dill cucumbers. Still enjoyed after the sauna

Decanted an hour. Best nose of any OR Pinot Noir I’ve had. Rose oetal, strawberry, cherry & raspberry. Lighter color. Feminine & ethereal just what I love. Silky texture and structure. Chambolle like fruits. Nice high acidity. Sweet nose and vanilla but wine is not sweet. Excellent wine. Love it.

Not nearly as open as the ‘21 Durant. Decanted an hour prior to service and followed for two more. The fruit is hiding behind earth and leather but it still manages be elegant and Goodfellowish. I will hold onto my remaining bottles for 3-5+ years before opening another.

Pretty nose of tart red cherries, florals, and warm baking spices. Reasonably open for a young Goodfellow but packed with crunchy red fruit and dry extract, with some backend tannin so I think it will only improve. I’ll give my remaining bottles a few years.

After an hour decant nose was mentholated cherry. With more time the menthol notes opened into a wet stone. Found the palate to be seductive, but in a poised as opposed to lush way. Well balanced, beautiful fruit for a savory wine. No rough edges, structure to continue to age gracefully.

Blind Tasting of 8 Young Oregon Pinots : My #6, group #8. This wine needs time. Very light red color. Nose of bright cranberry, some vanilla. Very tannic, bright berry flavors, a lot of acid. Medium+ finish.

Opening up nicely after an hour and a half, this is expressive with red fruit backed by a ton of stone and graphite with earthy notes. Seems like this will last forever, it’s another winner from Goodfellow

Tasted after 90 minutes of air. Still tight and needs time. Medium ruby color. Light floral on the nose. Sweet raspberry fruit with good balancing crunch on the palate. Nice spice. Good persistence on the finish. This will stand the test of time and still be drinking great years from now.

PNP. Grassel glass. Another great bottle. Inviting bouquet of dried flowers and whole cluster that says you won’t be disappointed. Love the finesse in this wine. Lots of energy with fresh red fruit and spice in spades. Balanced tannins frame the sides and acidity lifts the fruit and spice. Had with scalloped potatoes finished with black pepper. The pepper really showcased the fruit. Long finish. Last bottle so another one I’ll miss. 94.

PNP. I was a bit worried this would be shut down. Quite the opposite The nose is intoxicating and reminiscent of burgundy. Is a wine you can just smell all day. My notes from 2020 are pretty consistent today. Bramble wild fruit, spice, juicy, long with integrated tannins and grapefruit rind. Such a pleasure to drink. Very glad I opened it now. Was SBS with another OR Pinot that was on day two. This one showed better. Remarkable effort. 92+

Decanted one hour. Very light color which means nothing. No Old World nose. Taste is nice acidity and lots of red, Chambolle fruits. More feminine and ethereal which is nice. Very muc a finesse wine but with lots of flavor. Not mild at all. Long finish and will improve with more bottle time. Excellent wine.

It is young and would probably mellow over time and merit a higher score in the future. You can taste it is a warm year with ample fruit mainly to the darker side and some sweetness. It is quite concentrated with good depth being true to its Ribbon Ridge location. I would have liked a bit more nerve and minerality.

Right out of the bottle, into a glass, the nose was fairly generous with red fruit. It quieted down for a bit and so I put it in the decanter for 90 or so minutes. Opened up quite a bit.
