Lunch at Keyaki, Pan Pacific. ABV 13.5%. Still dark ruby in color, not much sign of aging. Clean and expressive nose, minerals, flowers, damp earth, spices and oaks. Excellent condition when I opened it - cork is so elastic, doesn't look like a 19 YO wine. Great ruby colour with very light tint of aging. I would call it ~10 years from a not so hot vintage if blinded. Very fragrant and soft, tannin very fine for a 2006 Echezeaux. The Mugneret sisters are excellent source for Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot, often putting a fine polish on these slightly edgy grand cru terroirs. Silky texture and very balance. …

I always like Mugneret Gibourg's take on the more edgy terroir like Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot as they always manage to bring the polished and elegant side of the wines from there. This 2006 is no exceptional - it has the grand cru weight expected from the Echezeaux but being very gentle, with polished tannin and beautiful red fruits aromas. Opened an hour or so early since it was a mag. I think it helpful but ultimately this wine is in great drinking window. While 2006 may not be the the best vintage its sure bringing me tons of enjoyment. Well balanced with hints of blackberry and cherry.

1/3, vg cork. Bright pale/medium garnet, pale garnet rim. Aromatic - bilberry fruit - florals, spice, sense of soil. Medium bodied, elegant but quite mouth-filling, bilberry, spice, florals again, lovely vibrant acids, very fine tannins, long, harmonious finish. Excellent/outstanding, now drinking well - probably start of plateau.

tasted blind, guessed Echezeaux 2008, but I knew someone probably brought a M-G, so I was playing the room... cherry, plum, blackberry, beautiful oak spice, forest floor, mint, vague flowers, beautiful lift and dimension on the nose dense and velvety on the palate, structured and intense, young, very complex and long on the finish

Popped and poured and enjoyed over two nights. Just a hint of funk on the nose which also showed notes a sweet red fruit. Good depth and concentration on the palate, especially for an '06. More earthy and red fruited flavors but also some classic Burg spice notes. Great effort here but not quite as good as the incredible CV produced in this vintage.

Ahh. Lovely like past bottles. Light ruby color is followed by a super nose of mushrooms, red fruits, sun baked leaves and oriental spices. Benchmark aromas. Palate follows the nose into an integrated, silky palate. Should be delicious for years. (94)

Awesome. One of the better bottles of the past few months. Bright ruby color is followed by a sensual, caressing nose that is bright, exotic, complex and full of nuance. Ripe cherries, violets and earth. Restrained power on the mature palate that has a lively and long finish. A complete wine that is both technically spot on and emotionally compelling. (95)

The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York) : Fragrant ripe red cherry and earth. Sappy, good acidity. By far the best of the 3 vintages, but I wonder whether it will always be a bit chunky. Finesse is not its long suit.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY) : Walk around tasting, in 12/08/06 vertical. Slightly matured red cherry and berry with earth and savory spice. Everything combines with graceful textures to make a very nuanced, charming, and enticing wine in its drinking window. A good indication of where the 2012 and 2008 in this vertical will go.

The nose was muted tonight with mostly plastic. Palate was rich with sweet dark fruit. A masculine expression of echezeaux. The worst showing among the multiple bottles tried in the same case offered by a generous friend. Gibourg made significantly better wine in 07 vintage.

Lovely showing. Quite elegant, linear, but with silky fruit and a touch of spice. As with many 2006s, this is higher toned and quite lifted but all in perfect balance, as ever with the sisters. Should age beautifully over next decade.

Shared by Thelittlehorse. Lucky to taste this wine again. Slow ox for 3 hours. Nose has herbs, spice, minerals and candied fruit. Palate is dark and slightly earthy. Quite big. Not as attractive as the first bottle we had. 91-92

This was unfortunately an off bottle. We had the same wine three months ago and was an amazing wine. Recalled my memory on the bottle we had three months ago - 2006 Echezeaux showed very good structure and complexity with smoke, spices, meaty, and plum/ dark cherries, very long finish on palate.

The wine is initially tight and unyielding with mostly dark and candy fruit. To be honest, I was disappointed given the price tag. After 3 hours of air, oh boy! Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Spiaggia - Chicago IL) : An odd bottle. This seemed raisiny and somewhat pruned to start. A fresh pour an hour later seemed fresher, but still more advanced vs previous and better bottles.

Again with Coravin, followed by 3 hours decant. What a difference. The unpleasant smell has dissapeared completely. Nose is now full with red and dark fruit. Taste also lovely fruit, minerals and still some tannins in finish. Great drink, but needs serious decant!

With Coravin. Nose is completely off, unpleasant stable smell. Stays in the glass over time, gets worse. The smell is not present in taste. In taste the wine is closed and tannic. Over an hour it opens up a little with fruit emerging, showing the potential the wine has. But I think the nose of this wine will never come round.
