Reductive with notes of flint and struck match. On the nose, dark, brambly fruit, and some stemminess. On the palate, loads of juicy tart red fruit and wet stone minerality. Great concentration and length. Not overly complex but a solid German PN.

Nice, very burgundy. Wild nose, light to medium body, good balance and good lenght. Already really enjoyable but can age some more years. Drink or hold

Smells very dirty and earthy, like potting soil and damp moss. Rhubarb, beetroot, and pomegranate fruit laced with black cherry. Front palate has a burst of sourness. High acidity. A very savoury style of Pinot more akin to Burgundy than new world, with brisk acid and a dirtiness that while isn't unappealing probably isn't something I would seek out again.

Smells of roasted duck or other game bird with some dark roasted coffee and dark preserved cherries, roses, and some star anise. Medium body with some juicy cherry, a fine green tart core but ripe fruit around it. Light to medium grit tannins and refreshing acid driven medium finish. Needs a few more years but very enjoyable!

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. No sediment in the screen or the bottle. Nose was reticent during decant. Wine was clear; translucent ruby from bowl to rim with no bricking. After resting, nose was interesting to say the least. There was a brett-like aroma that was not quite barnyard, more like what one smells in an old vegetable cellar, atop a rhubarb-strawberry-raspberry jam. As the meal progressed, the brett weakened but never went away. Equally interesting was …

Aromas of rubber, iron, perfume, black pepper, and raspberry. Initially, the flavors are quite watery and salty, but more body develops later, although it remains light. There are notes of orange along with red fruit, pepper, and dried herbs. It’s an interesting Pinot, that I would drink again at this price point.

Pine forest, red fruited, lacking the necessary acidity but overall inoffensive and enjoyable. Music Pairing: Los Yoyi - Yoyi

Seemed faulty, way too much bret in this bottle. Have tried several other bottles of this wine though and none of them were particularly enjoyable. Would not recommend to anyone.

No detailed notes but this was delish. Great bouquet, mainly fruits at first with ripe cherry, and strawberry as well as a great rose perfume. After a few minutes a bit of mushroom and earth/autumn leaves began to poke through too. Palate was bright and juicy, less fruity and more flinty and umami with the earthy tones coming through more. Finish was medium, flavour concentration relatively high. Still young and quite primary, but think a couple years in the cellar …

Brilliant ruby fading to pink with a thin watery rim. Nose of raspberry, bing cherry, crushed rock, and A LOT of smoke/ash. Palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, but is dominated by a harsh smokey taste that dominates any fruit flavors. Medium length finish of smoke and red berries. I tasted this at the winery and liked it enough to hand-carry a bottle home to the US. I can't believe it tasted like this at the winery - there is …

Dichtes Rubinrot. Faszinierend. 90 vvPunkte

Raspberry ripe strawberry, cherry, pine tar, flinty reduction, rich nutmeg, ginger. Fruit forward and super juicy. Very fine and velvety tannins, medium finish, medium acidity. Lots of super bright red fruit balanced with this really cool sappy quality that I love, along with warm spices from the oak. Really great now and doesn't really have the structure for the long haul, drink up!

Univinum wine fair (@EDEKA Ueltzhöfer, Heilbronn, Germany) : Glass: Red Wine *** brief notes for my own memory from tasting sip. No rating *** Wow, compared to Saalwächter already open and very joyful. More German, fruity side of Pinot, but actually really joyful. Like it. 88-89

Beautiful dark translucent ruby. Don’t get much on the nose- maybe some earth and toasted bread? On the palate, it really jumps out on entry with a lot of red fruit and oak spice. Bright, racy, and fresh. A little spritz to it. Clean, medium length finish. I think I like it, although a little simple. As Pinot, it’s well made. No score from me as I don’t know this region well enough to be a good judge.

Master class "German Spätburgunder" with Caro Maurer MW (Hochschule Geisenheim, Germany) : Flight 3, Wine 1, presented by Steffen Rings. Bright medium ruby colour. Red and dark fruit, cherry, blueberry, blackberry, spices and smoke, with medium-level acidity, ripe, round, well-integrated tannin, and good length. Smooth, creamy, yoghurt-like texture. Very good value.

Master class "German Spätburgunder" with Caro Maurer MW (Hochschule Geisenheim, Germany) : Flight 3, Wine 2, presented by Steffen Rings. Medium ruby colour. Red and blue fruit, cherry, coffee, spices, and smoke, with medium-level acidity, round, well-integrated tannin, and good length. The texture is smooth and creamy. A touch of residual CO2 adds freshness. Very likeable! I am positive that it will keep for at least 10 years, but I would drink now for its freshness and fruit.

Light ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with ripe strawberry, ripe raspberry, vanilla, smoke, black pepper and violet. Medium taste of ripe strawberry, ripe raspberry, vanilla, dried herbs and charred wood. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Light tannins. Medium body. A very good Pfalz Spätburgunder with great juiciness. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with duck, pork or veal.

The red Gutswein from VdP estate Weingut Rings. In the past I have had issues with the wines from this estate, due to excessive use of sweet oak. No such troubles here. Organic viticulure, spontaneous fermentation with 10% whole bunches, aged for 12 months in French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered, 12.5% ABV. Diam 10. Lovely Spätburgunder typicity (it could never be confused with Burgundy), supple and juicy and fresh, subtle warmth from the wood, sweet cherries and berries and …

Sweet alluring nose. Quite linear as you would expect upfront but interestingly finished with a slightly sweeter tone. Really well balanced and very enjoyable. I have to say this is a fantastic value wine!

very light depth of color, rim is ruby clear showing low to moderate efforts at extraction. aromatically this wine sings with floral red fruits that are crunchy and chalky... no new barrique influence i could detect. on the palate the wine has very high acidity, very zippy wine, low to moderate depth on the mid palate, low to moderate amount of well integrated fine tannins. decent balance (could use a bit more mid palate weight), average length, great aromatic intensity, …

Good must weight (88º-92º Oechsle) in spite of considerable yields (65 hl/ha), aged for 11 months in seasoned barriques, 13% ABV. Open and attractive nose of cherries and warm spices; the palate is light and transparent but soft and juicy, with ripe acidity and very light tannins, spices and a hint of cream, crushed red berries; hint of tea on the finish, good length. An easy but lovely Pinot Noir.
