This 90% Merlot has certainly hit its stride. Everything an everyday Bordeaux from pomerol can be - sweet fruit, very careful balance and nice acidity to keep it, well, Bordeaux. Drinking very well, give it an hour or two of air.

Wow quelle surprise !!!

This is fresh with nice dark fruit. Well integrated oak and chalky mid palate. However it has a bitter finish which takes the score down. Not sure if more air would have helped (3 hours in bottle, not decanted). Drank with Easter striploin roast.

HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago, IL) : Exactly what you want from a 1994 Pomerol. Lots of earthy red fruits, leather, cigar, and currants. Lots of sweet berries on the palate, great balance, a touch of green peppers, and smoke. Wonderful.

HDH Bordeaux Auction; 10/31/2014-11/1/2014 (Chicago, IL) : Lovely cherry and a bit of cough syrup on the nose. The palate is refined and aristocratic, with a good amount of stem, leather, tart cherry, and bell pepper notes. Classic and well proportioned in every area. Ready now, but definitely will hold for a few years more.

1999 Petrus Tasting (Metropolitan wine cellar, HK) : Ruby with clear rim. Really good nose, minerals, violet, currants, blue fruits, blood, stem, tobacco and herbal notes near the back. But palate is less accomplished than the nose, there are tobacco leaf and cherry notes, although silky, acidity and green notes quickly took over the senses. Perhaps due to the vintage?

Magnum bottle .... very nice nose when uncorking, cork still in good condition. Was amazed by nice colour and continuous good nose. Went down very well ... perhaps a couple of years earlier would have been better.

pristine cork and fill. slow-o for 4 hours, tasting throughout. dry soil and earth, almost like standing in a dustbowl except there is a hint of figs and even porcinis. this is a palate coating wine with an exceptionally long finish. dry mushrooms, dried herbs, and and faint hints of red fruits. an interesting and complex wine. the limits of the vintage show though, and thus i do not think this will improve. nevertheless, an excellent wine.

Without decanting! The fruit did fade out a bit in the second hour, otherwise the score should be higher! Well made wine, don't make wrong, this is a serious business! Slightly brownish in color, for a sixteen years nearly seventeen years old, this is perfectly normal in my view! In the first hour, beautiful nose of red fruits, cherry, a touch of raspberry, nicely presented! Then, in the second hour, the nose become burnt sugar, caramel nose and a touch …

Lunch at G.B. Roof Garden Restaurant with my friend George. Popped and poured. Lot of sediment. Needs to be filtered prior drinking. Deep garnet with some orange hues. Scents of licorice, barnyard and forest fruits. Typical Pomerol nose. Full - bodied and complex with melted tannins, and flavors of oak, leather, cassis and spices. On its maturity, must be drunk the next 2 or 3 years. Ideal pairing for a kobe beef filet.

Very nice. Ready to drink. A little austere and earthy, probably consistent with the challenging vintage.

nose: lovely and evolved nose filled with small berry tones, various hi-toned florals, bits of clay, blueberries and fresh picked cherries. On the feminine side that is quite lovely and demure with its great expression of merlot taste: on the delicate side, but not overtly delicate medium feel with nice medium acidity. Lovely tones of small berries, blueberries, cherries, and various floral tones mix well together overall: this performs very well again. It'll be hard to keep my hands off …

Quite acidic and dry - seemed pretty tight upon first opening, but opened up with some aeration over the course of the evening.. Some nice, concentrated cherry/floral notes on the nose give way to bell pepper and vegetal notes. Vegetal notes and lots of tobacco on the palate, with little fruit. Complex, but not as enjoyable as I would have hoped - we were a bit disappointed given the age & price. Paired fine with seared NY strip.

Great. Balanced, structured, rather dry through the middle with many winter flavor notes. In its prime.

The nose here was particularly off-putting, especially for my wife. Certainly quite a bit of barnyard. This was in the decanter for an hour and only opened reluctantly. Probably also suffered b/c of the cellar temp in the 50's. Classic Bdx. Looking forward to the other half tonight.

nose: wonderful and filling nose of clay tones, loads of various floral tones, bell peppers, herbal tones, earthen tones, and slight bits of cherries that creep their way in with more air taste: beautiful silky and elegant medium/light feel emiting classy tones of florals, bell peppers, herbs, and slight cherry tones overall: a beautiful wine that is shockingly young. Nice fine grained tannins that are more pronounced in the front of the mouth and a bit on the Mid Palate, …

Approacning full maturity, this wine was excellent. The fruit was still present, but secondary characteristics have really developed well. This wine showed cigar box and leather and still had a bit of structure although the tannins were somewhat tame. Paired really well with a grilled porterhouse. For $60 I will definitely pick up some more of this for near term consumption.
