Nice Smokey cherry flavor on front. That soon blends with a pleasant currant flavor. It has calmed down a lot being 28 yrs old. Blends nicely with non meaty food. Only Moderate tannins are noticeable .

On the nose some leather,dirt, wet stones, black pepper and some ripe alcoholic plummy fruit. On the taste has lost its freshness thus needs to chill it a bit, flavors of slightly jammy sweet cherry with earthy character, black pepper, still some tannin left but the best days of this wine are over.

Not decanted, consumed over ~2 hours. Vague note from memory: dense dark fruit and some herbal/smoky character. With some air, this became less ripe on the palate than it seemed like it might be upon opening. Not a knockout, but fairly nice for the price. Maybe 87-88ish, and should be good for a few years, at least.
