Stone fruit, high acid, well balanced, decent length. Super bright, fresh and energetic. Lacks a little power and complexity but it’s delicious and fun.

Grand Vin. Lemon and wet stones with a range of other fruits coming into and out of the frame - white peach, melon, papaya. Touch of honeysuckle and petrol. Elegant power. Still quite youthful but a great moment in time to open.

2015 vintage

Similar showing to my last one. In a great place. Explosive, crystalline and fresh, with notes of grapefruit, citrus, steely chalky mineral notes, smokey, a touch of spice and mint. Medium-full bodied, with high acidity cutting through everything and superb length. Excellent. Best bottle so far.

2016 vintage

Seventh bottle from an eight bottle lot purchased in 2008. Pristine condition. Not nearly as striking as the previousbottle in 2021, but a very fine specimen too. Almost fluorescent green-tinged buttercup yellow colour, intense but lively; zesty nose with some waxy warmth behind, good depth of fruit; wonderfully vibrant and energetic palate, especially for a twenty year old GG from a warm vintage, hint of cream, lovely grapefruit bitters; palpable minerality on the finish, dry and with very good length.

2005 vintage

In a good spot, but could benefit with a few more years of bottle age. On the riper side with some very nice tropical fruits, peach, lychee, petrol, flint, smoke, and crushed rocks on the nose. Quite floral too. Nice intensity and concentration on both the nose and palate. Smooth, has good acid, ever so slightly sweet and astringent. Delicious!

Peter Bourne - Supper (Bibo Wine Bar, Darlinghurst) : A little sulphur, peachy, custard apple, a touch of dusty Sponti, floral top notes. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, textured mid palate grip, stone fruit, just beginning to get a little honeyed characteristic, that sulphur note translates to the palate. Feels like it might need time to come together despite nine years.

This one is very powerful both on the nose and the palate. But it's a beautifully balanced wine, lots of ripe fruits with herbs and floral elements. The finish is zingy, and long.

2015 vintage

A bit mute directly after opening, needed some air to get going. After half an hour it got much more focused, passion fruit, citrus and white orchard fruit. Steely, straight and very long.

Pale yellow. Flinty stone, citrus fruit and white pepper on the nose. Austerely dry, full-bodied intensity on the palate with crystalline acidity. Lengthy finish. Probably has many years of life ahead.

2016 vintage

Still young, I realized, but it's far from infanticide to drink it now. On the nose, there was an early whiff of petroleum that pointed all to a Riesling. Full bodied without sacrificing any freshness or focus. With time in the glass, there was a clear aromatic theme of florality - which to me is a good indication of a wine from Nahe. Excellent wine, but not yet outstanding.

Pop b poured some petrol on nose nice stone fruit, lemon but slightly sour. Had a glass recorked and back in fridge and next day much better less sour and drinking well. Better with some air

2016 vintage

Brought to Rieslingfeir. Drank next to a 750mL of 2007 and a mag of 2012. Most thought 2011 was their favorite with 2012 being a close second. This, like other Donnhoff 2011s, is solidly in the zone with the fruit beginning to go honeyed, a strong mineral streak remains, and the texture is ever so glycerin-y.

Wow, impressive with a robust, intense aromatic profile and equally robust, concentrated yet electric palate. Early peak drinking.

Angelica Wine Club - Bring a meaningful bottle (Longshore, Chippendale) : Peach, slight bees wax, honey, red apple, tangy texture, a little apple skin bitterness, long, gains complexity with time; stone fruits, glycerol fatness, a little residual sugar. Lovely.

Typical Riesling, high acidity, quite ripe stone fruit, slight bitterness on the finish. A great effort.

Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle vertical tasting 2003-2013 + X (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein) : Glass: Gabriel Universal Clear, medium golden color. Beautiful fruity and relaxed nose, reminding me of exotic fruit salad mixed with some smoke. On the palate sweet, warm fruit, nice phenolic grip, beautiful salty mineral core, medium acidity, 12,5% abv., good length. Compared next to 2004 somewhere between 92-93, if drunk solitary certainly one or more additional points :)

Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle vertical tasting 2003-2013 + X (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein) : Glass: Gabriel Universal One of the best GG in 2011. Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful elegant, fruity nose. On the palate very uncomplicated and easy drinking. Probably like 2009 with a little bit less tension and complexity. Sweet fruit, some fine bitter notes, crushed stoned, medium+ length. 92-93

Beautiful nose jumping from the glass with lemon and petrol elements, minerals and a touch of greens. Generous palate, felt like it had a touch of RS but this may be the strong fruityness of the Riesling great. Very good acidity and balance.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over multiple days. Clear, youthful pale lemon color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful nose. Floral notes, lots of crushed stones, very herbaceous and sweet fruit. Quite dense and ethereal. Beautiful flesh and density . Still a youngster. 13,5% abv, medium+ acidity. Lots of crushed stones, warm, yellow stone fruit, smoky notes, some zesty bitter notes. Very good balance, very good tension, deep. Long and zesty finish. Slowly reaching its full peak. 94-95

Lovely and expressive Riesling aromas with citrus, apples, flowers and some petro. Soft mouth feeling, but concentrated and rich, with pronounced acidity. A monumental Riesling.

Drunk over dinner with friends next to two other GGs of the same vintage and producer. Opened a few hours before dinner. No TN, from memory. No clearly discernible fruit on the nose, which already announces the amazing minerality of the wine, giving hints of wet rock and slate, together with floral and spicy (gingerbread) notes. Nice nose of lemon peel, lemon curd, floral and fresh. Palate has a punching acidity, but a soft harmonious mouthfeel. Finish rewards with a hint of honey sweetness. Enjoyed this over the course of three days and while it remained stable, it didn't gain any finesse.

Lemon, steel, white flowers, orchard fruit, almond - nose is enough to make me salivate. On the palate, quite fruit forward with apples & pear then transitions into crushed rock. Finishes with a hit of high acidity but still a touch of residual sweetness on the tongue. I don't think this is a great Felsenberg. It's a relatively more open & approachable version does but still retain the classic, austere nature.
