Pre-1996 Blind Napa vs Bordeaux (Ducru, Heitz, Abreu, Cos d'Estournel, Cask 23 & more) (Charlotte, NC) : 1 hour double-decant. Showing some age on the rim, ruby in tone.Delightful, soft, dried fruit nose. Elegant on the mouthfeel. Extremely pleasing balance of secondary and tertiary notes while maintaining ample primary fruit resulting in an outstanding performance. Savory medium+ length finish cap off a fabulous wine. Overall Wine of the Night. Two 1st place votes, four 2nd place votes. 6 guesses for …

Not having experience with this wine/vintage, I opened the bottle an hour before dinner. 5-10 minutes in the decanter while I rinsed the bottle, and then poured straight back in, corked, and placed into the wine carrier. From first glass to the last this wine was firing on all cylinders. Strong fruit, moderate acid and tannins, long finish. This wine had it all and is hitting a wonderful stride. There was no meaningful evolution with air as it was already …

From Magnum. a nose loaded with cigar smoke, cedar and baked black fruits. On the palate I got old leather, figs, and cigar smoke. The wine was fresh with medium plus acidity and medium finish. This has peaked while still splendid look at how well these can age I think it is time to drink up.

Nice old California cab. Red fruit with earth tones. Balanced and well integrated.

This was slightly more advanced in color than the Dunn tasted next to it. Also the aromatics show a lot of evolution and tertiary notes, fading dried fruit, some dried leaves, graphite, menthol, sweet spices, also some dark fruit that is fading, a touch of cardboard/barnyard (resembling me of the Ducru-Beaucaillous of the 70ies and early 80ies, not a flaw though). It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium acidity and medium tannin that is a little rough around the edges. Medium+ length. …

Cellar Triage Tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon; 4/14/2019-4/15/2019 (Home) : Going through my cellar looking at wines that the ullage is starting to creep out of the neck, this was one. About a 1/4 inch out of the neck the cork was tired but extracted in one piece. Still garnet not tawny, still has muscle and personality. Definitely aged but also definitely not OTH. Hints of brett that blew off, wish we made wines like this now 12.5% alcohol. Tons of …

Pnp, but need an hour to show up.. Nose: mint , leather, , mushroom, dark fruit, a bit concentrated. Palate: still round n full , a bit high acidity in the middle ,plum, and a bit tannic in finished. Drink alone would be a bit dry and tannic, but good to pair with 咕嚕肉 On the peak and ready to drink!

A little rough. Heavy on the mushroom and raisin, although still had a bit of black cherry shining through. The intensity of this wine's fruit was outdone by an 86 Kenwood Cab Artist series cab. This one was still quite a bit more on the earthy side of the coin, as sometimes they certainly are. Still a really neat history lesson and always thrilled to try these out whenever I see them. These Robert Mondavi's were made in a style …

Tasted at The Fine Wine Experience Mature Robert Mondavi Tasting, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Whilst this wasn't my favourite wine of the tasting it was perhaps the archetypal Mondavi Reserve. It has an abundance of sweetness, richness and elegance that was evident across the range of vintages we tasted.

Small Plates and Mix of Aged Wines (Craig & Nita's Place) : Dark to very dark red color, subtle 5mm transitional margin. PNP, drank 1+ glass over 2+ hours. After removing the fully saturated cork in 3 large crumbling pieces and filtering an initial taste to check the wine, I knew this was going to be a treat. These older bottles of Mondavi rarely seem to disappoint and they just seem to age effortlessly. This bottle was right up there …

What a pleasure to smell and drink. Opened around 6PM. Kevin had to do surgery on the crumbly muck that passed for a cork that left no doubt, this is ain't a counterfeit :). You have to be amazed that this wine not only survived but thrived with such a corrupted barrier to old wines enemy, air. Indeed it did. Terrific, plunge your nose in, aromas of earth, mushroom, tobacco and cedar. Much of this carries over to the palate …

Signs of past seepage. Nose a little dull with cherry and plum notes. On the palate cherry, plum, and a hint of tobacco. Nice balanced finish. Very food friendly. Would have liked a little more fruit but I think this bottle was slightly off due to past leakage. That one was for you drycab, you will be missed.

Opened and decanted at 4pm wine drunk through about 9pm. Medium to dark translucent garnet with slight bricking. This wine needs air...best about 4 hours after decanting. Nose has earthy mushrooms, cedar, pine tar, chocolate and black cherry fruit. Medium bodied on the palate with the cherry, some black raspberry, cedar, tobacco, a touch of vanilla and some chocolate on the finish. Soft on the tongue but still lively. Old school Cali Cab aged just right.

Opened full of fruit immediately upon opening. This is drinking very nicely. A bit light in body, reflecting a bit of diminution. The 1984's continue to surprise with longevity.

I'd say this is a classic example of the nose being better than the body, in fact if I had to rate them separately, I'd give them 94 and 90, respectively. Out of the bottle, a very nice light red with a great complex nose of cedar, embers and leather - in other words, very telltale aged cabernet. Without decanting it, the first 45 minutes or so were terrific - with more earthy elements coming in on the palate backed …

Nice nose but fading quickly. Not much to offer on the palate. Decent finish. Looking at other notes this may have been an off bottle/ improperly stored.

Year 3 - Super Tasting 1 of 5 - Dave does Birth Year Wines : I thought this was a gorgeous wine and was totally the Mondavi house style. The nose was of sweet cedar, dried orange peel, leather, toasted cedar shavings, dark chocolate, cumin seed, dark cherry and cassis. The palate replays a lovely dark cherry, leather, sweet cedar and orange peel notes with integrated tannin, medium acid and a medium plus finish. I really liked this wine, up …

Year 3: Super Tastings Round 1 of 5; Dave Does Birth Year Wines (Dave's House) : Popped and poured, followed approximately 1 hour. Deep garnet in the glass, with a light brick. On the nose, this is the polar opposite of the BV; very classic nose, with notes of black currant, leafy foliage, undergrowth, fresh mushroom, mint leaves, pyrazine and lead pencil. On the palate, medium acidity, some unresolved fine grain tannin and a medium finish, with tastes of red/black …
