Medium tawny, a bit hazy. Drinking best after several days open in the fridge. On the nose dried figs, raisins, dried cranberries, a little rancio. Medium bodied and quite sweet, some tannin gives an almost crystalline, crunchy texture. Dried fruit comes through again on the palate, with some slightly bitter apple skin notes on the finish. Classic in style, if maybe lacking a little finesse.

A dinner at Loek and Saskia at May 21- I had forgotten to make a note of this lovely Kopke Port: A kind of orange glow, well dosed wood, nearly creamy. a bit of apricot, a whiff of pepper, smooth, a balanced match between the medium sweetness and ripe aicidity, than came a long, concentrated and balanced aftertaste: 94 points and 1 extra for its nearly unchanging condition. To see the tasting story, go to the 1878 Domaine du Mazureau …

Beautiful tawny colour. Soft throughout , rounded rich, under control and beautifully balanced with dried fruit and nuts taste. Very Bual like and only mild downside is it could be a bit more than just mid weight.

FTLOP 18th Anniversary; 11/17/2023-11/19/2023 (Seattle, Washington) : Bottled in 2011. Slightly cloudy tawny brown color. Notes of chocolate, mahogany, molasses, and subtle herbal nuances create a smooth flavor profile with well-balanced tannins. The long finish is highlighted by a nice blend of orange sweetness and acidity.

Lovely, deep tawny and viscous in the glass. Intense aromas of dried fig, molasses and bergamot. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, full bodied and unctuous. Alcohol is well presented and gentle. Flavors follow the nose, with dried fig, candied yams, balsamic strawberries snd molasses. Long, intense finish. Soaring after 20 years.

Beautiful drop. Amber red in color. Palate: a cornucopia of flavors: caramel, walnuts, fig, toffee, and dried fruit to start. Great juice!

Surprisingly dark ( surprisingly for people like ai who don’t drink that much port that is) bright full of energy and weight on the palate . Oak has left its mark too in a nice way and what a joy this is. Pointless to rate frankly but a top wine

Always awesome! Drank over the last year. I think these need like 30+ years of age for prime drinking. The ‘78 is still the best vintage I had by far.

Sammamish Port Club Grab Bag (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2018. Lovely nose of caramel with light spice and citrus. Smooth flavor profile with vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and just a touch of bitterness on the mid-palate. Long finish with some orange peel and sweet caramel.

Offley and Ferreira Pairings (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2018. Light amber-gold in color. Crème Brulee and great old wood notes on the nose. Great viscosity on the palate, with dried fruits, light maple syrup, and some really pleasant citrus notes. The acidity is vibrant on the mid-palate and the finish has really nice complexity.

Colheita & Madeira Tasting (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2011. Clear, brownish-amber in color. Oxidation and whiff of cardboard on the nose, although there is still some underlying fruit present. Some initial funkiness on the palate, giving way to a subtle, rich mouthfeel with cinnamon and orange spices. A little of the funkiness returns on the finish. Aside from the 1937 Kopke Colheita, I think this is normally one of the top Colheitas that Kopke produces, so it was a …

A serie of superb Old World wines (Amsterdam) : Bottled 1985; a nearly hefty bouquet with lots of almonds and other nuts, starting a a bit sharp, but broadens with aeration. The hallmark of Kopke: not the power, but the persistence combined with a medium sweetness; finishing dry and nutty and with a superb aftertaste.

Clearly improving with a age , looking forward to this developing over time but is drinking extremely well now , paired with a very nature Stilton and held its own , good job there was only a half bottle! Happy to own several more bottles to try over the next few years and believe this could develop more

Tawny, in particularly Colheita, have a special place for me. Complexity, enjoyment and value in one. Nosel: Burnt caramel, dried sweet alcoholic cranberries, smokey meaty underbelly, glazed nuts. Pal: Essence of maturity, off-dry, more sweet baked cranberries and raisins with baking spice and potpourri. More glazed nuts and Christmas fruit cake. Fin: Refreshing acidity and balanced alcoholic kick, with a vivid sweet cured meat and spicy cranberry compote. Excellent.

Colheita, Douro Red, and Dinner (Seattle, WA) : Initially a very reticent nose. It slowly opened up in the glass to reveal some dried fruit and nuts. On the palate this shows good weight and elegance with mouth watering acidity. A smooth, long warm finish. Moderate complexity. 9 days later, I think this shows some improvement. A little lighter and not as brash as the '52 Rocha. It is smooth and elegant. The alcohol is well integrated and the finish …
