Quite Lovely- not at all grippy as to which some of the previews reviews refer. Cherry, red fruit, balanced , elegant with some hints of tobacco and earth. Let decant for 2 hours. Delicate.

Pleasant floral nose. Initially closed and harsh. After an hour or so, it became more user friendly, revealing a good amount of red and dark fruit and some minerality, although it remained a bit tart and stern. This wine might still need a few more years to reach its potential.

I agree completely with BrooklynGuy. This tastes like a good New World pinot noir-- not like a Volnay. Looking over Jon Rimmerman (Garagiste) review and the winemaker's philosophy of letting the individuality of each wine shine through, I can see how Volnay grapes from '02 might be more aggressively tannic and have higher acidity and more ripe flavors. But at a certain point, it stops tasting like a Volnay.

Quite good but not great. Clean and proper, a touch of wood but not problematic. Pretty and stoney and some upside remaining.

this wine tastes like new world Pinot to me. Not saying it's bad or anything, but it doesn't taste like Volnay. It's well balanced and ripe and perfectly good wine, but if i had bought it myself and were looking for Volnay, or even for Burgundy in general, I would be disappointed.

Friday Night Dinner (Chez Dave & Ali) : A wonderful wine that really shines with its delicacy of composition. It's a wine that coaxes the drinker to appreciate it rather than attempting to bludgeon it with overwhelming fruit or pizazz. An enchanting wine with upside. Perhaps my RWOTN.

Friday Night Dinner @ David and Ali's : The unassuming Volnay sure crept up on many of us at the table. It didn't have the big fruit the Jadot had, nor the intoxicating nose of the Leflaive, but what it did have was a very evident elegance. Subtle aromas of coffee, cherry, tree bark, leather, and sexy florals. Really nice wine.

Bubbles and Burgs (David&Ali's, Rockville, MD) : nose: shows off the sappyness that I generally get from 02s right now with tones of dark red fruits, dark red cherries, some earth and bits of mushrooms as well as various spice tones. Good depth, but holding back a bit right now and not fully showing off the terroir just yet taste: extremely young with some rough edges and gripping tannins as well as a good medium feel. Balanced, but holding back …

Served with salmon dinner. Brought over by T&J. Opened but not decanted. Strong earth, funk and oak on opening. Opened after about 20 minutes to show a pretty floral nose with with dark fruit and red cherry finish. Good to Very Good.

Dark pinot fruit on the nose, dark flowers, a lingering minerality. This is primary, and palate-cutting, with black pinot fruit, palate-staining sap in the middle, and a sturdy, acidic finish. Love the persistence of the flavors, and the finish, and while this is muscular and dense for a volnay, it is beautiful for the purity of the fruit, even if it needs time to show its stuff.

Opened for a hour then decanted. The aroma was tight at first, but the earth and minerality was showing through. Eventually some spice arose, and by the end of the bottle, it was fully realized elegance. Not as supple as the recent Volnay I'd tried (Voillot '02, Marquis d'Angerville Champans '01), so I conclude that longer decanting would have worked. I have another bottle to save for a few years.

This is probably my biggest Garagiste win to date. Incredibly pure, no oak in the way, very reserved in style yet with very fresh fruit and lots of minerality and spice. Reminiscent of Grivot in a way with the reservedness and the amount of acid and tension that presents itself relative to any fleshiness or forwardness. Very very aromatic and you could pick this blind as a Volnay very very easily, great display of terroir. On the nose cranberry and …
