First experience with Gentaz and this bottle was absolutely spot on! Fantastic nose with cherries, smoky pine needles, savory, a hint of black olives, and charred meat. Good acidity and balance on the palate with structured but integrated tannins, red and black fruit, cherries, underwood, and a bit more black olive flavors. Very long finish. Feral and fuzzy on the nose, with obvious Brett or -like scents. Once in the mouth, however, it transforms into a kaleidoscope of flowers from violet to magnolia to orange blossom. Beautiful in the mouth, even if meaty and bandaged on the nose.

Just perfect. Beguiling nose of blood, iron, smoke, and intense red-black fruit. Palate changes over 2.5 hrs open, from a bit tight and tense at first to something with great verve and classic Cote Rotie notes, then it gets a bit more floral, then turning a bit tighter again before finally blossoming completely. La Tablee: Celebratory Dinner (BYO) (26 Bridge Street, Brooklyn) : Wow - so at first I missed which wine this was because the label was pretty banged up. Just a tiny pour. Still amazing. Very fresh and lovely. That intensity that hides below more of a finesse finish. Doing well.

Hitting the classic Northern Rh�ne notes on the nose with scorched earth and meat and intermingling florals above blackberry fruit. Excellent but rendered quiet by the sensational �88 alongside. Served in a spectacular flight of �89, �88, �85, �83. �88 the clear winner for its crackling nose and balance of power and elegance.

Five Decades of Leroy (Charlie Bird) : Expansive and layered bouquet of flowers, smoked meats, and cracked black pepper. Ripe black cherry. Campfire and smoke. Deep and rich and overall quite youthful. Wow this was fantastic. Smoked the '83 tonight. Thank you very much Bill for two more outrageous wines.

Classic animalistic nose but the wine itself was fairly tame with a lovely mature soft texture with plenty of crunchy fruit underneath. Medium-bodied and supremely elegant with delicious dalr cherry fruit and great spiciness and complexity on the finish. Just lacked a bit of the expected punch and power so perhaps a somehow subdued bottle.

Fabulous nose of ripe dark cherries and minerals. So fine on the palate with a silky texture and intense flavors of dark cherry, sweet earth and menthol. Finishes with supple, ripe tannins and complex notes of minerals, funky earth, leathers, roasted meats and spices. This is still quite young and not showing all it has yet. The purity and high quality here are truly amazing. 96+

I loved this bottle even though not as pure as this wine can be. A little more dark earth, leather, and barnyard than other bottles that I have had. An overall intensity of flavor not matched by many wines, although it is still acquiring its depth. Quite youthful and may not reach maturity for another decade. Paired with venison, chestnut and chanterelle.
