Kitchen Istanbul with Leon, Gence, Alder (Kitchen Istanbul, SF) : Med minus ruby magenta color. On the nose, expressive with a hint of slightly confected red fruit (semicarbonic? Whole cluster?). Fresh cranberry, cranberry stem, fresh earth. Slightly reductive. Elevated intensity aromatics. Reminds me of some awesome heavier cru Beaujolais on the nose, e.g. Dutraive. Medium body, slight pepper (rotundone?), elevated bitterness, quite drying elevated tannins, med plus acid. Fresh and astringent, and quite bitter - like eating a raw cranberry. …

Old friends and young wine (Kitchen Istanbul San Francisco) : Deep deep red. Lovely spiky nose. Oh the palate - grip and bite. Like a carignan with a PhD, a chunky knit sweater and interesting stories of time spent in a war zone. Taut acidity and biting tannins - a hint of cigarette smoke. This is lovely stuff - but the market price suggests that other people know this.
