Eighth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2004. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. Mature but still perfectly fresh, not much fruit left but no oxidative notes either, well integrated savoury oak, good length. Not hollow, not skeletal, but no real charm either. Solid but probably not capable of meaningful evolution from here. Drink up.

Ruud his 70th birthday. Only superb wines. (By Ruud) : Full bodied and complex, rich, white fruits and well dosed oak. Pleasant acidity.

2018 vintage

Domaine de Chevalier and Famille Bernard have a special place in my heart. All 2018s - Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Domaine de la Solitude, L‚ÄôEsprit de la Chevalier, and the grand vin Domaine de Chevalier rouge. The grand vin rouge needed at least 2 hours to start opening up, but the depth was lovely. L‚ÄôEsprit and Solitude would be well-placed on any restaurant wine list. The blanc was a treat and I regret a little drinking it so young.

Far more expressive than the 2017. Lemon Curd, Green Apples, white flowers honey melon and vanilla. A 30 minute decant and serving this wine on the warmer side helps, a lot

Light yellow with nice nose of nectarine, pears, and apples. Vibrant acidity, slightly unctuous, with notes of rose, apples, grapefruits, some herbal notes - very pleasant and with a long ending showing some citrus, spice, and oak. Young, but already very pleasant. Wait 4-5 years or decant for 1 hour. 93 now, 94-95 potential.

High (bordering on med+) acid, full body, high alcohol, long finish. Pronounced intensity aromas and flavors dominated by primary fruit (green bell pepper, gooseberry, peach, green melon, lemongrass, Meyer lemon), with secondary (subtle cloves, baking spices) and tertiary (mushrooms, hay, toast, honey). This is an outstanding wine--so many distinct aromas, working together with such profound intensity. The contributions from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillion are transparent and yet well integrated. Golden color. Expresses scents of apricot cream, golden delicious apple, lychee, tangerine, vanilla, and pineapple. Round palate, touch of oxidation. A tad bitter mid-palate at first but with 30-45 minutes of air time, it blossomed out nicely. Much like a tropical creme brulee, it's a pleasant diversion.

Full, with fig, pear, and coconut, stony finish, at least one person thought tiring I just thought mature and complex. B+/A-

Had an OMO paired with wagyu beef. Medium yellow color. Notes of citrus, lemon, peach, and some mineral. Very bold especially for a white. Medium acidity. Medium plus dryness. So good, eager to try again

Served double blind… Roars from the glass with fresh grass, gooseberries, wax, slate, and limeade. We quickly got Sauvignon Blanc but we were thinking a great Sancerre. Long, intense, deep but light and bright, amazingly young and fresh for an 03, brilliant. 94-95 pts.

Lightly coloured for its age. Ripe rich fragrance, hay lanolin, crushed herbs, citrus, honeysuckle. Crisp, clean and very long. Gorgeous sweet fruit with complex dried herbs and honey. Delicious now but with structure to go longer.

One of the bottle I got from my uncle's "cellar" when he passed away about 8 years ago. The problem was that his cellar was boxes of wine underneath the shoes in his clothes closet. This was not a bad wine, but a bit disappointing. The fruit was a bit dull and there was a tiny amount of bitterness instead of the acidity. Tasted at the Chateau. A lovely complex wine! Medium lemon Pronounced intensity with aromas/flavors of blossom, meadow flowers, green apples, lemon peel, grape, grass, green leaf, spices and a touch of vanilla, honey & some dried green fruit. Great complexity On the palate the wine is dry with high acidity, medium alcohol and body. The intensity in pronounced and the quality is outstanding and can drink now potential for aging.

Complex and evolved. Lots going on between the nose and palate. Aged white Bordeaux is one of my favorites. The blend of varietals, the complexity. Notes of honey, vanilla, straw, tropical fruit, nice acidity still showing with a long clean finish. Wonderful.

For a 25 year old wine, this is impressive! White Bordeaux really can age well. No orange edges in the glass to indicate age, most of the wine group was surprised once they learned of the vintage. This wine still had some acidity to pair well with sushi at Arigato, and I will hold onto my other bottles to see how well they fare in the future. Impressive and damn serious wine. Nose dominated by the SB. Blackcurrant leaf dominated initially, then showed preserved peach, stone, cedar, citrus peel. Bright acidity and a full body, though never overwhelming. Leaves your tongue feeling dry, almost sandy. Wood, stone, grapefruit om the palate. Long finish. An outstanding wine, albeit a little stern now. Will age beautifully.

The nose is powerful, gorgeous, and intense with a dense core of highly extracted stewed peach, smoke, orchid blossoms, and vanilla, with a brooding baby’s diaper funk that is beautiful in its integration, staying in the background where it belongs but nonetheless adding a funky interest to a wine erupting with the freshest fruit and flower smells and pretty Tahitian vanilla lended by gentile oak treatment. Domaine de Chevalier Vertical (1789) : Grandest of the whites, no question. A little bit of fruit preserves on the front (Panos calls it peachy - yes, that’s it!) segues to chalk and beach sand. So transparent. It’s shedding its mortal body and entering the spirit realm.

1989 vintage

Not rating this because it was just too young and writing this note from memory. Full of promise, excellent length with an interesting mix of citrus pith, lime, smoke and granite. Right now though the elements are all a jumble of conflict and bitter edges get in the way. Let’s throw out an “unofficial” number of 92-95. Keep for 3-5 years and revisit.

Tasted for our 20th wedding anniversary on the wine’s 20th birthday over a 3 hour period - starts out nutty with little hint of fruit and a touch of must that eventually blows off evolving into citrus and honey flavor notes and beeswax bouquet. Quite viscous. Finish is dry.

2003 vintage

Started a little tight on opening but blossomed after a few hours. Next day even better after storing in the fridge over night. Pineapple, floral, peach and cantaloupe up front with some bread/cookie and citrus on the backend. Salty and mineral throughout with plenty of acidity. Viscous and full in body.

2018 vintage

Open two hours. Moderately intense, subtle aromas of quince, herbs, beeswax, baguette. Dry, with moderate, buzzing acidity, full-bodied, 14.5°. Mostly savory and saline on the palate, but layered, with different flavors coming into focus and disappearing again, various pomme and stone fruit, citrus zest. Richly textured, creamy and grainy. Speaks softly but has a lot to say.

2018 vintage

This was shockingly fresh and brightly colored. Butter popcorn, apples, lemon, and floral notes on the nose. The palate has quite a bit of acidity with lemon and dried flowers. Nice finish. Well balanced with good weight and richer notes, offset by the acidity. Amazing wine, can't believe it's 33 years old.

Such a fun, well-refined wine. Notes of pear, vanilla and some softer, less tart flavors that pairs quite well the sea bass served alongside the wine. I anticipate this wine continuing to improve over the next several years.

Sixth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2004. This bottle is mildly oxidised. The essential character of the wine is still easily recognisable, but there are also aromas of wet straw. They clear up a bit over 24 hours in the fridge, and I kind of like the lowland malt flavours on the finish, but the straw is not correct. Bottle variation, clearly.

2003 vintage

Cork in great condition. Brilliant mid gold colour - perhaps a little darker than expected? Nose is tropical fruit with a little oxidative Elastoplast. Palate is a little faded in truth - some acidity but tending to more tertiary characteristics. Great finish but overall I feel this bottle has suffered premature oxidation. Still very nice but I was expecting more.

A very good, but young wine. Notes of grapefruit, lemon, apricot and honey. In about a decade or so this wine should be amazing.

Intense and rich in the aromas with wild summer meadow lying over ripe apples, stone fruit and minerals. Good full-bodied and slightly fatty fruit that is kept alive by a nice acid structure. Fatty citrus, stone fruit, sage, butter and salts. Good oily and complex finish. The alcohol is well integrated. Great wine.

A bit candied peach and apricot. Oak yet to be integrated. Less structured but good intensity and length. Needs some time.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting (Amstel Boathouse, Amsterdam, NL) : Ripe but fresh, clean as a whistle, creamy lemon and vegetal notes, perfectly integrated new oak, hint of tropical fruit, gentle bitters, excellent length. A classic DdC in a warm vintage - based on the 2003 I have every confidence in this wine and its longevity.

The 2018 UGCB tasting Amsterdam 6/21/2021 (Amsterdam, Amstel Boathouse) : Starting with very much wood, but with aeration (i gave this wine some time), the balance arrived, some fat, a whiff of wax and lovely citrus and absolutely less wood. This wine will become very enjoyable, but give it time.

Round, bright, lush, creamy and juicy, with layers of fresh, crisp pomelo, waxy lemon peel, green apple, flowers and stone with a dab of honey, there is a lot to like here. Give it a few more years in the cellar and there will be even more to like as it ages.

Very youthful white golden colour with green reflections; the nose is quite oaky initially, but it opens up beautifully to a completely classical Domaine de Chevalier bouquet of lemon curd, flowers, vegetal notes and savoury oak; the flavoursome, savoury palate is wonderfully fresh and youthful, sustained by juicy acidity and the tannic structure from the oak; …

Ouvert et dégusté. Très retenu, boisé et frais, remis le bouchon et placé dans le frigo. 48 heures plus tard, le vin est excellent! Jaune citron pâle, arômes de pierre à fusil, de fleurs et d’agrumes, une touche de beurre, équilibré et concentré, salivant, très longue finale presque iodée. Très beau et devrait tenir longtemps.

Fantastic length and concentration. We opened it about two hours before drinking and that seemed just about right. A few more bottles of this, in no rush whatsoever to drink it.
