This has changed dramatically after some years of aging. I am personally not a fan of California Syrah, which can be harsh and hard-edged. I really prefer rhone wines, which are smoother and more interesting, and have more bouquet and . This wine has evolved a lot in that direction! Very nice.

Not good. Maybe cork taint.

Powerful and rich wine. Deep ruby color and full body. Very dry. Complex flavors of plum, pepper, dried fruits, and licorice. Firm bite from the tannins, and a bit tart. May benefit from more time. Reasonably good QPR. Interesting and fun.

Deep ruby in color. Dark berries and lavender on the nose. Excellent blackberries, blueberries and allspice on the palate. Paired great with a twice smoked ham.

Dark purple, jammy Syrah, light to medium oak, some tannins. Think this could use a little age, but drinking well now.

Black cherry, sweet fruit, smoke, rose petals, medium finish. Better than previous bottle.

Crimson, muted fruit, lacking much substance or complexity. Maybe just this bottle, but overall disappointing.

Kind of disappointing- initial impression is somewhat green. Some nice flavors there too but hard to get past the vegetal flavors.

California Syrah or CDP (with some Whites to Start) (Beebe House) : Tasted blind (subject was New World Syrah or CDP). Guessed new world. Dark purple color. Very big nose - black cherry, blueberry, burnt rubbber. On palate, full body, cherry, black cherry, acid & tannins to handle fruit - big wine but balanced and delicious. Wrote 93+. My #2 wine and the group's WOTN and a big surprise. Would buy.

This deep ruby wine (100% Syrah) was enjoyed at the Lodge at Torrey Pines (walk-around Spottswoode tasting near the Torrey South 18th hole). A formal note was not written contemporaneously, but it can be said that the wine has excellent fruit and structure. It will likely benefit from short-term cellaring and should subsequently drink nicely for several years thereafter. Drink 1/14-12/20.
