3 years since our last bottle. Drinking very well-I'd say starting to peak, with easily 5-10 years of aging potential left. Dark red fruit, soft tannins, with some black pepper and a hint of anise. Lovley, complex and restrained in an "Old World" manner. we'll try another bottle in a year or two

Part of blind tasting of Premium Aussie Shiraz. Enveloping nose, great savouries on top of tertiary black fruits, nutmeg, vanilla, salty black liquorice, refreshing acidity, full-bodied long finish. Great depth and concentration. Was either second or third favourite of the tasters. Later note - the wine started to fade approx 2 hours later and had a metallic tang to it. While this declined the '04 Grange got better and better. We concluded that this wine should not be cellared any …

Good drinking now, close to peak for my taste. Still a lot of dark fruit, slight hints of cured meat, well integrated tannins. Balanced. Could take another 5 years in cellar.

Deep ruby with blackberries, blackcurrant and menthol on the nose. The purity of fruit dances on the tongue in balance with the acidity and smooth tannins. White pepper, fresh leather and smoked lardons wrapped by rich black fruit. Excellent wine and still plenty of years left ahead, but drinking well now.

Part of a blind tasting against other Syrah, finished in 3rd place behind a Le Vieux Pin 2012 Equinoxe and a Cote Rotie La Landoone 2003. Excellent wine, but stood out as the obvious Oz in our flight. Big, bright fruit nose, strawberry and cherry notes dominating. Still tasting very young, has many, many years still in it. But if this is your style of Syrah, wow, it's mighty fine.

Drank with 2006 Grange. Surprisingly similar in tasting profile with red/dark fruit and black pepper as dominant flavor notes. Subtle oak at the end. Outstanding wine with long life ahead of it...

Very big, fairly dense but lots of fruit, with layers of complexity developing and notable length. It should have many years of life and even further development if I can bear to wait. Very Penfolds in character, not as distinctive as Grange (nothing is) but well above what we used to regard as their “basic” wines, eg Bin 28, which is still excellent.

Five hour decant, the nose is filled with umami, blackberry, spices. The palate is still on the young side, with pepper, chewy tannins, solid acidity. This is just beginning to get into it drinking window, with many years to go, the finish on this is nearly endless. Three bottles to go, will try to stretch them out over the next eight to ten years.

Hmmm what a great wine! Plenty of red and black berry fruit. Fruit still full and accompanied by a nice acidity that provides an excellent balanced wine. Tannins now softening. Long and complex finish. Drink now and over the next 5 years - will last a little longer but is at its peak now, expect to start to fall away from here.

Decanted a couple hours ahead of dinner. Beautiful bright clear ruby in the glass. Started off fresh with Victoria plum and maybe red cherry. Fruitier and juicier than the 2008, less perceptible oak. After two more hours in the decanter it started to flesh out and more spice came through, hint of allspice and maybe just a mere touch of tobacco. I think these wines have many more years to give, though I’m still finding it hard to reconcile the …

NobleRottersSydney - Random night (Fix, St James, Sydney) : {screwcap, 14.5%} [Gordon] Bottle 40991; double-decanted three hours earlier. Barely developing nose. Plums, blackberry jam, sweet vanilla and coconut too. Slight porty note to the aromas. An odd mix of young and old. The palate is about full-bodied, ultra-ripe fruit, despite any pretence RWT has to elegance. Big blackberry fruit, a touch raisin-like too, confected a bit; lots of heft on the mid-palate. Feels a little formulaic to me; maybe at …

Gift from Wassermann May, 2010. Removed from Bin North 10. Nose of spice and blackberry, blueberry. Deep dark purple. Vanilla oak and chalk presentation soft and even with hints of blackberry and spice on finish. Lovely aged wine. 8/10. Next day all fruit gone.

Deep currant/garnet colour. Nose: plum, blackberries and blueberries, chocolate, lightly toasted oak, some violets. Palate: Fine but prominent tannins, medium to full bodied. Good complexity and balance, nice long finish. It is a nice change to have a Barossa shiraz that isn't too big.

Dry deep purple and young looking, so it was on the palate, overwhelming and needing to soften for sometime, so no hurry and suspect it’s rating will then improve, great fruit.

90 minute decant. A little fruit and some earthiness on the nose. Dark fruit and leather on the mid palate with integrated tannin on the finish. Became smooth with a velvet finish as the dinner progressed. Went extraordinarily well with Coq au vin in a dark wine sauce. The wine got better through the evening. looking forward to holding my other bottles for a couple years and seeing how the wine progresses. Lots of time to enjoy this wine.

I waited 18 months since my last bottle of this and it was worth it - although this is still young. This was fabulously lovely. Very blue fruits. For those decanting this wine (everyone I assume!) do have a half a glass right out of the bottle as that was just beautiful - so fresh and huge fruit vibrancy before the wine softens slightly and the clove and spice come out. I found the tannins much less pronounced than 18 …

Very interesting wine. I decanted for only 90 minutes and at this stage it needs longer. Right now the complexity which will become evident later is not really showing - hence the 93 points and not higher. It is very definitely elegant and well balanced but at the moment a little one dimensional - lots of blue and dark fruit and an undertone of light tannin, clove and spice. I only have 6 and suspect I don't actually have the …

I love this wine. Pure elegance. Coming back to this since the last 3-4 years ago, and it's only gotten better. Deep purple and a rich and promising nose. The oak delivers some warmth and spice, but the pure black fruits are the hero here. Layers and layers of flavours provide serious complexity and interest. This is a style that shows off the Barossa at its best. I'm going to try and be patient with the rest of these

Pretty much in-line with others' assessments of this wine. I prefer the Bin 707 from the '04 vintage; but as I was doing a P&P at a local restaurant (La Fontana, Seattle- a favorite of mine for over two decades now), I had a limited decanting time- though after about an hour, it opened nicely. Well-structured, strong; but not acidic on the palate at all; medium-length finish with mild hints of the Terroir. Overall, I enjoyed this wine tremendously with …

A Real knock-out Syrah that has truly come of age after it's sleep in the bottle. Beauty of jeweled purple in the glass, shinny but nearly opaque. Medium to full bodied. Excellent legs and big alcohol, but the fruit easily matched this. Fruit and florals on the nose we very enjoyable. NOT a Auzzie fruit bomb at all. Very classy. Mouthfeel was excellent. Probably one of the top 3 bottles we drank during the holidays (of over 35 bottles tasted)

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), coffee and espresso. It tastes like game, meaty, black pepper, espresso and coffee. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Syrah vs. Shiraz (Cellier Wine Shop, Athens, Greece) : Unmistakeably Barossa shiraz of top quality. Pronounced eucalypt, camphor, blueberry, godiva mint chocolate and florality. Full-bodied, dense with explosive fruit, yet perfectly balanced. Firm but fine-grained tannins of textbook quality and a very long aftertaste. Still quite youthful but absolutely enjoyable. My WOTN.

Penfolds Tasting (DEPs) : A ruby-purple wine with a nose of mint/eucalyptus, licorice, and black fruits. Velvety in the mouth, with serious depth, and lots of blackberry.
