Lovely wine and very much in the right drinking range. Punches above its weight and is a bargain compared to its big brother.

Black cherry, licorice, bramble, elderberry, balsamico, bay leaves, new leather, fresh soil and wet rock. Enjoyable but still tightly knit. Opened up after a few hours with noticeable tannins and a bitter sensation towards the finish. Should develop well and hopefully become more rounder. The vintage seems to shine through and continues to impress

Red fruits, eucalyptus and smooth tannins. still a lot of color and life to the wine. Opened significantly after a couple of hours in a decanter.

PnP and was great right out of the gate. Definitely in its drinking window ( I would say 1st 3rd). Did show its best with 30 minutes of air though. Very balanced with no nose of alcohol and very integrated fruit, tannins, acidity, etc. The winery’s skill set was evident in this wine, and I hope to try the big brother one day!

Savoury with notes of cassis and leather. Fresh with firm tannins, it had a super structure and length developing mocha and dark chocolate on a lingering finish. CHP 92 pts

The Guidalberto 2016 is singing now. The nose has deep blue fruit elements, but what stands out are the herbal elements of rosemary, basil and dill. On the palate the black fruit elements of the nose broaden and deepen. The finish is long. A great compliment to a pasta or other Tuscan dinner. Great wine!

Terroir-istes International - Italy, Bolgheri (Anwilka, Stellenbosch) : (Tasted Blind): Deep garnet in colour. The nose reveals gorgeous earth and dried fruit aromas, complemented by spiced orange, light vanilla and warmed black cherry, with a touch of pencil lead. As it opens, it reveals carrion and some musty oak. A rich, intense entry with a lively acid but also a touch of oxidation, but not distracting. Nicely balanced, the wine is savoury-inclined and quite refined with notes of blood orange, …

Risotto, Lasagne, of course home made and this is an absolutely spectacular pairing. Fully open for business after just 1h of slow ox! The prior tasting note is spot on and I still can’t believe how good this second wine is. Drink this while you wait for the 2016 Sass! Now - 2035 95p+

PNP, and drinking well from the open. Nice Bordeaux blend that still presents the Tuscan terroir front and center. The nose in particular almost suggests sangiovese (there is none in this blend), with hints of burnt citrus and Tuscan soil. Good balance of fruit on the palate with a dash of leather and minerality. Really enjoyable and great QPR relative to its better known and more expensive older brother.

Beautiful red and blue berries, earthy spices, vanilla and a touch of leather on the nose. Rich and rounded palate with medium-bodied structure. Good level of fresh acidity carried the flavours from the dense entry seamless to the finish which is somewhat short and one dimensional. Ready to drink now with minimal decanting needed.

Notes after 3 days open. Dark ruby color, about 80% opaque with no fading and a small amount of sediment. Pretty classic Bordeaux nose with cassis, pencil shavings, tobacco, leather, spice, and cologne. The tannic grip was holding its ground for the first day open but relaxed on day 2 and 3, allowing a delicious mix of fruit and acidity to play across the palate. After running through a lineup of 9 Bdx wines two days ago that spanned 1949 …

From the Magnum and drunk mainly with friends on Day 1 after a three hour decant. Great wine but young. Still a little wound up and age with soften everything out and deliver a fabulous wine. Re-bottled and the couple of glasses in Day 2 gave a glimpse of the future.

Superb. My top 5 best wines under USD 50 I have ever enjoyed. Beautiful floral nose, and best of all.. the juicy acids and wonderfully fine tannins which give a luscious mouthfeel. San Guido, why did it sound so familiar.. oh yes, this is the Baby Sassicaia. Amazing that the price difference is 6 fold, but this Guidalberto 2016 provides so much pleasure. Cherries and plum layers, it gradually evolves to reveal some chocolate and cassis after an hour too. …

Tasted at Terroir Renaissance along with 2000, 16, 17 and 19. The bottles were directly from the winery. Very fresh and definitely not as aged as it appears to be. 60% Cab S and 40% merlot. I personally prefer the 2000 with 20% Sangiovese. Five spices, nutmeg, licorice, capsicum, blackcurrant. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. Very good wine.

Inaugural vintage of Guidalberto. 40% cab s, 40% merlot, 20% Sangiovese. New world style. Surprisingly vibrant on the nose, hazelnut, toast, blackberry, blackcurrant, wet leaves. A lot of energy on the palate. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. The best performing vintage comparing to 04, 16 and 17, which generally use 60% cab s and 40% merlot. I do believe Sangiovese adds a little touch of Tuscan nuances.

Decanted for an hour. There is an interesting interplay between the Cabernet and the Merlot, with the nose showing slightly jammy fruit, violets and a hint of lavender, while the palate is vey much dominated by leafy fruit and leather, penetrated by excellent freshness. This is very nice and changes nicely across the meal. ***1/2

This wine is coming to an end, it's starting to show more dried leaf notes and has softened quit a bit in the 2 years. It's entered it's pretty zone with cherries and mocha with notes of cassis and a really solid streak of licorice. Nice light chocolate notes frame the finish that lasts for a long time.

This wine had been properly cellared in a wine store's vault. Incredibly tight and tannic out of the bottle. After an hour the fruit was revealed, but the tannins were still in your face. Very fruity, lovely but tasted young. Saved 1-2 glasses' worth for the next day. On the second day, the wine was a completely different animal, almost unrecognizable. The tannins had softened and the fresh fruit had receded to reveal head-spinning secondary characteristics of earth and dried …
