Found a lone bottle of this lurking in the cellar. I have never tasted any vintage of this wine. I have only a little experience with Grenache blends. I love MV and I know d'Arenberg is a good producer, but I only have limited experience with their wine. Colour: between ruby and garnet. Nose: white chocolate. A beautiful complex intense dried red fruit perfume that I am finding difficult to describe. Dusty tannin that diminishes with time. As the wine …

Excellent, classic, 14.5% alc. Colour: red berry, brick red, slight browning Bouquet: aged Grenache fruit dominates - floral, chocolate, jammy character, licorice Palate: Shiraz more dominant on palate. Developed fruit, licorice and tar, boot polish, spicey, but with a floral lift - a bit like Shiraz with Viognier. Full bodied, big soft tannins, long clean finish. June 2015

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry, plum and prune. It tastes like chocolate. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Great aged characters, lavendar on the nose, super fine powdery tannins with mulberry fruit - some spice and acid lingering at the back with pot pourri coming through - approaching peak but not there yet

needed about an hour to open up, but then revealed a very pleasing tart cherry/sweet raspberry profile, balanced with leather/smoke tones.

Blackberries, black currant, dark chocolate, cigarbox, vanilla, earthiness and sweet spice on the nose. Blackberries, sweet spice, cedar and vanilla on the nose. Medium acidity, and med/med-low tannins. Drinking very well now, but should hold up for at least another 2-3 years.

(Brunner 2 of 3: Post-Australia Day BBQ@Geoff's w Ads, Just, Mich&Bo, Derek&Tessa, Craig, Mike) Dark garnet in glass. Concentrated dark juicy berries and violets on the nose, with some glycerol and alcohol notes. Certainly hot. Taste is cool and sweet with tobacco, savory juicy red fruits and chicken stock, held up together with soft velvety tannins, ending on a clean, short serve.

Red fruit, spice, and earth, with good acidity and a long finish. Recognizably New World, but restrained; it's not jammy, hot, or sweet, as Ozzie wines are too often. Likely to be a crowd-pleaser.

Mighty great wine for under $20, D'Arenberg always does well at all price points, this is one of their best wines for the money, though they are all great. Inky appearance, fruit nose and jammy/plummy/earthy taste with a good finish. It seemed a little tight (young) at first, but opened up wonderfully. May be at its peak in another 12-18 months, but it is great now. Fairly robust for being 50% Grenache...the Grenache fruit is not timid and only tones …

Compared to the D'Arenberg "stump jump" shiraz this shiaz/ grenache blend is better all around. Both are good with food, but I like d'arry's original blend all by itself too.

Dark cherry color with an orange/brown rim. Aromas of cherry, cassis, black berry, earthiness, and black pepper. Tannins have definitely mellowed over the years. A good wine but not in its prime.

The color is a deep purple with only a little light coming through when held up against the chandelier. Strong Vanilla and Caramel on the nose with sweet ripe blackberries. There is a light sweetness on the palate. The fruit in this bottle is still strong. The tannis are light and under control with very little acid. Its aging very nicely and I wish i had purchased more bottles.

My first Australian CDR clone. Had this at a BBQ and drank it with Chili Stingray - spice on spice, my tongue went on fire! Decent, plummy fruits but lacks depth and elegance. But should I be looking for this in a CDR or CDP? Not familiar with the standards to judge sufficiently.

This is a lovely medium bodied wine. Raspberries and a nice chunk of topsoil on the nose; just a huge deliciousness factor on the palate which shows bright and pure red fruits. There is a dryness which holds at bay any OTT characteristics often found in other big Aussie reds. More finely boned than I was expecting. Good acidity, a trace of oak on the finish, some brambliness too. This is so nearly a 90 pointer!

Easy drinker. Paired well with spicy tarako spaghetti & sweet potato fries. Plenty of heat on the tongue, but it doesn't overwhelm the ripe fruits.

Had this on boxing day, after a different aussie Shiraz/Viognier (Yaluma) and it did not compare at all favourably. The other was a far more interesting wine, better balanced. This was a big aussie fruit bomb. Surprisingly so, since I have always enjoyed d'Arenberg wines. Would not buy again.

d'Arenberg do so many wines better than this! Do not let this taint your view. Lots of hot pepper and burnt coffee on the nose with Coffee, cough sweets, apple skin and more black pepper on the palate. @ d'Arenberg tasting with Claire Scott. West London Wine School.

On the palate, that typical ozzie oak/vanilla style, spice, finishes hot. I don't know why i keep giving oz the benefit of the doubt. With that being said if you like coconut alcohol monsters, this might be your thing.

Similar to last tasting with one difference, let sit in the cellar for two days after opened with Vacu-seal. This wine did not get flabby, but quite the contrary developed warm secondary flavors of rich dark berry and carmel. I would highly recommend this bottle as a great all around table red, with mixed fare.

Dark Purple. Candied black and blue fruit, bright floral aspects such as lilac, a and sandle-wood on the nose. For the higher alcohol content, this is not hot. The fruit easily compensates. The is more of a Black Cherry, and earth tone to the attack. Finish lingers for a good thirty seconds, with some cigar and expresso aspects. This bottle has a nice blend of tannins and acidity. Definitely new world Rhone style blend, but it has a easy way …

I don't know if I'm getting too used to the Languedoc but this vintage didn't taste as good as the '04. It lacks varietal character, depth and it is one dimensional. It's definitely more new world in style this time around.
