Sour and fruitless. Second completely undrinkable bottle of aged Piedmontese nebbiolo this week. What horrors the 09's, 10's and 11's seem to mostly have turned out to be.

Expressive with notes of clay, tar, pronounced rose hip, anise, leather, spices and fleshy berry fruits. Excellent tension and structure on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and sapid fruits. Med+ finish. Getting into the serious part of its drinking window; will hold for another 5 years at least. Another decade?

Medium ruby. Red cherries, spice, cinnamon nose. Red fruits, figs, savoury palate. I enjoyed this a little more today, might be wrong on predicted longevity. Five bottles remaining. Will revisit early next year.

Floral and lifted with a ripe fruit core. Gets better with a few hours of air and starting to show the beginnings of some beguiling tertiary notes. Should evolve well over the next 3-5 years. 93+

Ruby core with tinges of burnt orange at the rim. Classic Barolo profile of roses, some violets and tar. Good fruit expression on a well-structured palate, this feels like it could/should develop more tertiary complexity over the next 2-3 years, and then probably hold for another 5+.

Medium ruby. Strawberries, chocolate, perfumed nose. A little acidic, not much tannin evident. Red fruits/vanilla palate. Light/medium bodied, medium finish. Ok, but not great. Probably needs drinking up in the next year or two.

Really pleasant wine, structured and with finesse without too much power to overshadow the wine. Trediberri are traditionalists leaving less wood and smoke on the palate. Instead the 2011 vintage is ripe with smooth tanins.

Another quit-your-office-job-turn-to-winemaking story, coming from a fairly young winery in the north of Italy. Father and son, Federico and Nicola Oberto launched this winery in 2008 and committed to very modern, exciting style of Barolo. Giving off aromas of hibiscus, crunchy sour cherry, cranberry and sweet spices. Clean, pristine palate with a tad of sweetness on the aftertaste and juicy acidity throughout the whole structure. Rigtig fin og velsmagende Barolo. Fremragende næse med kirsebær, hindbær, og dernæst viol, roser, lidt eucalyptus og tilsidst masser af sød bourbonvanille og lakridspulver. Det hele med en lille underliggende tone af frisk gazebind fra førstehjælpskassen. Jeg kan svømme helt hen i den duft. I munden er vinen fortsat Barolokantet med en god syre og tanniner, der tørrer gummerne godt ud. Alligevel en af de lettere og mere runde barolovine, som kan nydes uden mad og hvor ikke-kendere fortsat kan …

The nose was floral with much exotic fruits, like mango and passion fruit. The palate was dark chocolate and mango with a bit bitter aftertaste. I liked it alot!

Elegance wine. Interesting and perfumed nose. Taste contains notes of Medical, viol, perfume, roses, tar, florall. Fruit and mineral very present rather than extraction and wood. Delicate aftertaste with fine grained tanins and bite, some dryness, to drink now with food or next couple of years. Producer recommended not to keep for more than 10 years due to its young wines (and 2011).

Klassisk nebbefarge; rødoransje med vandig kant. Litt lukket nese. Markant medisinskap foran rødbær, litt tjære og forførende parfyme. Åpner rolig i munn med en del finkornede tanniner, roseblader, markjordbær litt gassbind og kirsebær. Øker i intensitet, litt vanilje og en kjempelang avslutning. Frisk. Alt overrasker med denne vinen. (Semi-) Modernistisk produksjon, men klassisk og tradisjonell stil i glasset. Ikke ekstrahert og tung, men flørtende og leken. Drikkeklar. Mangler litt på balanse, men et kupp til under 300. 90p

(At BBR's Italian Tour 2015) :: Wonderfully rounded, lifted, fresh and balanced, with cherry, rose, tar and some soil notes. A really good aromatic structure. It is big and meaty on the palate, showing again a lovely composure between the cherry & fruit, and the more savoury, spicy elements. Tannins are quite big, but not drying.
