Qupe Syrah Ibarra-Young Vineyard

Perfect age on this bottle, showcasing the terrior and craft of a master Syrah pioneer working with superb fruit. Really worth holding for the 7 years on vintage, and will continue to sail on for another 4 or 5 years with further improvement.

Drinking well now. Did this side-by-side with the 2011 and 2013. This opened up after a bit and ended up being everyone's favorite. Fruitier than 2011 but very well balanced with a bit of earth.

Medium to deep purple-ruby. Presents a clean, attractive bouquet of dark red and black fruits. On the palate, it is full of sweet, juicy blackberry and black cherry with a touch of pepper and spice on the finish. Not a vin de grade, but a lovely choice for drinking over the next couple of years.

Los Olivos Tasting : More blackberry on the palate than the previous wine. A hint of bacon fat on the nose. On the palate, this follows suit with the nose: somewhat softer with white pepper on the finish. Medium+ bodied and no real tannin on the finish this time.

Very consistent with prior note. Absolutely terrific.

This was really excellent syrah and very different in style (almost the opposite end of the spectrum) to the Sawyer Lindquist we drank a few days ago. This had a very meaty nose with loads of dark fruits. Rather full bodied on the palate with a great saline minerality and pretty intense white pepper notes on the finish. Great finish with a good amount of tannin and juicy acidity.

Medium-dark purple-garnet color, aromas of wild berries and blackberry. Palate shows rich flavors of black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry compote, some notes of milk chocolate and a ribbon of pink bubble gum sweet fruit. Medium ripe tannins and a splash of acidity balance the extraordinary finish. Our favorite Qupe vineyard in this vintage, and totally delicious. Just 200 cases produced.
