Maybe just in a weird place right now but completely unbalanced. Rich ripe fruit, somewhat of a balsamic/fig flavor. Has the smoky/meaty as expected as well. May be the oak or just needs some time. Will check in again in a couple years.

Fruit was pleasingly in the background, foreground was graphite and cured meats. Dark and brooding but with substantial ripeness. This is both quaffable and complex. Great stuff!

As others have noted this is a beauty of a N Rhone look-a-like. Meaty, bacon fat and some gameyness.

From Clos Solene: Named after Guillaume & Solene's son born in 2012. It comes from a cooler area in Santa Maria Valley to make this wine a little more like France's cool climate Syrah and inspired by Cote Rôtie. Similar to the Hommage à nos Pairs it was also co-fermented with Viognier, fermented with stem, the texture of this wine is outstanding that will age for more than a decade. This wine displays a brightness with broader tannins and much …

Winery visit. Aromas of red plum & cherry, mineral, clove, cedar, allspice and leather. Darker on the palate - blackberry, with mineral, clove and cracked pepper depth. Seamless and elegant, with fine tannins and lingering spice on the finish.

Bold blackberry, smoke, and sandlewood, with a broad streak of ground black pepper. Brambly, energetic, clean, young. Enjoyable now with air, this is a worthy hold.

Super young, with the makings of a superb wine. Cooler climate Syrah from Bien Nacido with a touch of Viognier

Blackberry, plum, cherry, smoke and some wood (barn wood) on the nose. Inky purple in the glass. Silky smooth, very enjoyable. Didn't decant, but a few minutes of air in the glass helped. A decant wouldn't be a bad idea. Grapes from Bien Nacido vineyard in Santa Maria Valley. Clos Solene is producing some awesome wines.

Tasted at Clos Solene alongside the 2013 La Petite Solene, L'Insolent, Hommage a nos Pairs, and El Toro. Hailing 100% Syrah fruit from Arroyo Grande (closer to the coast than a lot of other Paso Robles Syrah), the Cuvee Jean is reminiscent of a more cool climate Syrah from Sonoma. Notes of blueberry, cold blackberry, wet slate, and hints of black olive. A solid, packed Syrah, but currently without the layered interest of the Syrah blends Hommage a nos Pairs …
