Let it air (and come to temperature) for about 15 mins in glass. Medium bodied, a dark and brooding pinot noir which is more towards black than red fruit, with just the faintest hints of moss and earth coming in on the finish. Quite extracted with tannins remaining clear and present. Reminds me of some Pommards I have had. I always have a good experience with this especially given the amazing QPR.

Red and black cherry, fruit forward with hints of cola (Cali Pinot-esque) and some very slight sous bois. Finish a little short. For me, this is delicious and a great quaff (if not particularly complex), and for the price I paid it was incredible. I don't foresee it getting better at all. My score reflects how much I liked the wine. But if one were to score this based on QPR, it'd be a solid 95 for me.

Well-balanced, medium-bodied red and black cherry fruits, earthy. Clearly New World but balanced and energetic. We’ll made and a good value. 13%. At or just past peak. Drink now to 2026.

Similar to the bottle I had last month. It was opened opened two hours prior to consumption Dark red fruit on the nose. The palate was dark cherry, red plums, currant and a little chocolate. The finish was moderate to long.

2013 Martinborough Pinot Noir tasting (7 May 2022). 5 bottles/5 people/5 hours. Decanted. Ata Rangi: lacks finesse. Good, but was a let down for this label. 3rd place. 91 pts. Craggy Range Te Muna Road Single Vineyard: the most developed colour (brown edges) of the 5 tasted. Blackberry jam. Bitter. Short palate. 4th place. 88 pts. Dry River: deep red colour. Plum jam. Dark fruits. Stood up high for the whole 5 hours, only briefly giving way to Kusuda while …

Quite tight still. Aired it for 2-3 hours and it got better the longer it aired. Firmer than the 2013 Kiwa that I had earlier this year. There's some unresolved tannin - the tannin isn't bad tannin - that will take some time. After a few hours of airing and a lot of swirling in the glass to oxygenate it, it does become an interesting Pinot Noir. Lots of dark cherry fruit with superlative texture and balance. Just give this …

Quite dark. Scents are fruity with a bit of pinot funk. A bit large-scale. Palate similar, large, ripe, verging on jammy. Not too much tannin or grip. Nicely balanced. Not very pinot though. Lacks elegance and airiness. I preferred the Pahi in this vintage so far.

Changes dramatically in the glass. More tart at first but sweetens as it opens. Dusted with green and metalic notes. Tertiary notes along with some retained youthful abrasiveness. Last sip best. Drink now-2022.

Exuberant nose of red fruits with a hint of fruit pastille. Very full in the mouth; bags of red and darker fruits. Great balance and length. Tannins seem to be well integrated. Simply delicious.

Chill afternoon drinks at ES Kallang. Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Cork-closure. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of smoky oak, roasted dense black cherries, meat and earth with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of bright but roasted dense black cherries, blackberries, dark red candy, smoke, peppery …

Dark and monolithic on the nose, not giving much but earthy spice and herbs. On the palate again dark fruit. Some nice spiciness, detail and good acidity but towards the end it gets overtly bitter with just herbs, wood, tannins and acid. Might get better with som cellaring but I would have liked more, or at least brighter, fruit to have any confidence in laying these down. My wife liked it better.

Boisterous but subtle in its use of earth, iodine, and mineral to present its fresh and dried fruit notes. The layers are pressed into one another, suggesting this has at least five years ahead to fan out. Drink now or wait a few years for peak 2022-2023.

Had the 2016 a few weeks back, and this 2015 is showing the same bitterness on the palate and at least initially fairly prominent and dry tannins. Also a herbal touch, likely from whole cluster fermentation. This shows better balance with some air as the tannins soften and the bitterness somewhat subsides. Initially 88 then in the low 90s - prefer Kupe.

This wine is drinking well at this age. It has complexity driven by a baseline earthiness that develops over the evening and that makes for an interesting drinking experience. This is quite a tannic Pinot Noir. You might pour some out into a glass and leave it for an hour to see how it evolves. The red fruits express themselves as it opens up over time. Violet and sweet spice aromas provide a welcome entree into the wine. It’s leggy …

Like Smith, but a heck of alot more fun to say. Savory and dry again on the nose. And I am told what we are drinking now is very expensive. Tax write off for Neal Empson to visit his home. Savory, tart, tangy, feral, its there. Who will give it time?

Lovely nose - red fruit cordial, mushrooms, warm hay, raisins, and something in a memory I can't get at. Palate is very much like the nose with medium tannins, medium-plus acidity. Lovely roundness. Probably needs a little time, but very good. Pricey. 14%, £33.

Dark fruit, herbal and floral elements. Pretty tight on day 1, put the cook in, much more open on day 2. Good purity and acidity. Needs to some time develop, which could result in a pretty special wine...hoping it develops a bit of a sense of place.

Popped and aerated for about an hour, pours as a deeply hued, youthful ruby. Aromas of dark fruits along with spice from toasted oak and just a touch of green herbaceous. Medium to medium-plus body, moderate acidity, smooth mouthfeel. On the palate, this agains shows a good deal of dark, plummy fruits complemented by herbaceous notes and inoffensive oak. Although firm, the tannins are well-rounded and quite polished overall, embellishing upon a close tinged with subtle spice. While somewhat brooding …
