This one was better. Less muted in flavor, you could taste alittle of the mushroom and leather/graphite

Decanted and drunk over 2 nights. Well mannered, aged Bordeaux to drink now and next few years. A huge amount of sediment. Definitely an old school style, less fruit and still quite austere. Very easy to drink but perhaps a touch thin and astringent on the finish. Still very fun to drink.

1994 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Hawksmoor Guildhall, London, UK) : Nose that blossoms in the glass. Full on summer greenhouse tomato plant pungency with flourishing kitchen basil plant. Palate has some grated dark chocolate alongside the red fruited core. Another belting wine.

Stored in a cold cellar since release. Fill just above neck. Deep colour. Bouquet of black fruits and leather. Medium bodied. Decent balance and length. Definitely St Julien! But lacks elegance and finesse. Will keep for up to ten years but there seems little point as unlikely to improve.

OMG #105 (Ann Arbor, MI) : Modest fruit with astringency and tightness to the tannins that I feel will keep this out of balance for the remainder of its life.

Dark and inky. Nose of sweet shoe polish and prunes. Taste of sweet old cabernet fruit. Good acidity, medium weight, fading gracefully.

Neil's Langoa Dinner, Hawksmoor. Dark fruit, gravely mineral, some acetone notes as it warms. Medium bodied, dark fruit, vanilla, a but drying on the finish

Neil’s Langoa Barton @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall) : Quite high toned on the nose. VA. Similar on the attack. A little too frisky for my liking. There’s a decent wine underneath but it’s riddled with VA and it’s hard to get past the acetone.

Past its prime, lean, foursquare, medium-bodied wine displaying more secondary, earth and herbal notes than fruit, which is on the bright, crunchy, peppery, tart side.

A touch worn down. The cork was in great shape and pulled clean. The nose was funky and earthy that blew off quickly. The structure is still evident and holds the drink together. Quite light fruit, mostly dried fruit with some coffee grounds, worn leather and wet leaves. The finish retains some acidity that gives it life and verve. Tannins nicely integrated and only a touch of dryness on the last breath.

Leoville and Langoa with Damien Barton Sartorius : Absolutely ravishing Langoa - rich blackcurrant, beefy meat, Christmas pudding spice, licorice, cedar, and leather. Loads and loads of substance here. So healthy and invigorating. I could really drink this is quantity. This really is a testament both to how excellent a year 28 was and to how well Langoa can age. Langoa doesn't deserve to be in anyone's shadow, and in my book it isn't. From a Corney & Barrow bottling, …

Past its prime, or perhaps never hit its prime. But still, not bad fo a 25 year old wine.

The bottle was in perfect condition - excellent fill level and cork. Nicely evolved in colour. Spices, tobacco, mushrooms, undergrowth with lovely sweetness on the nose. On the palate a little thin and linear with overall decent balance. Just lacking a bit of fruit, the acidity is sticking out and the tannins are slightly drying towards the finish. But pretty well integrated still. Nice length. Drink up. 88-90

A wine from a different era. Very mature now, but the nose seems to pull together enough cassis so that the cedar, cigar, pyrazine notes don't totally dominate. Still quite tannic on the palate, as I suspect many of these 75s will be until their dying day. Alive, but I'd have preferred getting at this about 10 years ago.

Gorgeous ruby with violet at the edges. Lime rind and raspberry on the nose with a wonderful astringency. Sour raspberries, a touch of sour orange, strong mineral structure. Drinking quite young; a bit thin-bodied. Long finish, very pleasant; the finish is the best part of this wine.

Cork has turned to sawdust; I had to decant through cheesecloth. This was the worst of the 6 bottles in terms of cork condition, and this bottle is not showing well after the 1st 15 minutes. After an hour in the decanter, there are nice hoisin and mint notes, but overall a little tired.

I'd almost forgotten how enjoyable Bordeaux can be, even if I will never love it as much as Barolo, Burgundy and Northern Rhone. Prerhaps at the beginning of a slow decline, this wine boasts lovely mature notes of cedar, tobacco, mint and what I can only describe as perfectly mature Cabernet. The tannins are silky and unobtrusive, and it just drinks beautifully. More sublime than the 83 Margaux I had earlier this year, albeit less complex and with less upside …

I would echo the notes by SLR precisely. Leather, earth, tobacco, with some nice fruit lurking in the background. Tannins are fully resolved providing a nice silky mouth feel. This is by no means a modern Bordeaux or Rolland/Parker style wine that has become more the norm the last 15 years. I only wish I could still find wines like this at a reasonable cost. This is a very enjoyable wine and another home run from the 1995 vintage - …

Gave this 2hrs of air in the bottle. Nose of dusty red fruits, leather and earth. Flavors of red and black currents, leaf tobacco and damp earth. Fruit is still there. Tannins mostly resolved. Think this could last a few years more but no reason to wait. Very enjoyable aged bordeaux.

Still thick and vibrant, with good jammy flavours, but lacking a little poise and guile. It's an old-fashioned four-square claret which could do with some more finesse. No hurry if you've got some but I wouldn't seek it out.

Good colour - good ruby core with a little fade at the rim; some lifted menthol, mint and medicinal notes alongside dried cranberry and cherry and a hint of leather and cedar. A little heady, the alcohol really goes to the back of the throat; good weight in the mouth, not the greatest amount of fruit now its fair to say, still has some chewy tannins, lacking finesse. A bit of a dearth of appeal on the palate, acidity and …

Donker robijnrood, nauwelijks verkleuring.

I like Langoa Barton, but this wasn't particularly exciting. It wasn't that there was something wrong with it. It was just dumb. No excitement. No Charm. Nothing to say. Chasse Spleen 1993 completely outclassed this. Not bad value, but 1997 is better.

. I’ve liked this more before- there’s still a nice fruit base here, but it seems to be drying out on finish, and without a steak to balance it seems the tannins are still gritty. B-/C+

Carried as a “Wild Goose” wine for St Patricks day dinner. Fully mature, still some solid plum and cassis fruit, a little chocolate with the cedary finish. Not deep or complex, but pretty good example of mature claret, with no excessive 75 tannin, best bottle of this I’ve had. B+

Well well well. Just goes to show how much bottle variation you can get. This bottle didn't show it's age at all the wine was a fabulous purple with only the very slightest hint of orange at the rim. A full leathery, cigar box nose and a smooth well integrated mouthful with tannins smooth as silk. Medium finish. Classic claret but clearly some variation from bottle to bottle.

'Dragon's vintage dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck @ Paragon) : Opened for 2hrs. Lively and quite a lots of sweet fruits in the core with coffee, toasted bread, tobacco and herbs. Again, this is drinking very nicely now but obviously lack of the depth and complexity, still pretty fresh though. The touch of spicy and coffee flavors at the medium length finished added a little bit more of dimension to it.
