Brighter and more lithe than I expected, almost youthful. A very nice wine, but a "different" sort of Beaujolais.

Sadly, my last bottle of this great wine. Light ruby. Bursting with aromas of black cherry. Medium weight, textured and sappy. A mix of dark red and blue fruit with a lovely soil base. The depth and freshness of fruit are extraordinary. Not classic in the sense of missing the tangy Gamay acidity, but this has slimmed down considerably since its early days and remains wildly delicious.

Nose of strawberries and spices. Fresh and refined on the palate. The juice is fine yet powerful, especially with freshly picked strawberries sprinkled with fine spices. The second half of the palate is tangy with a hint of licorice. Beautifully balanced. A good finish of blood orange, which captures the warmth of the vintage, while the palate is rather light and savory. A very good Beaujolais at full maturity.

Loved this bottle. On the burgundy side for a Cru Beajolais. Elegant with structure - paired with fresh ling cod and a black bean ragout. Perfectly balanced in the moment with lots of life ahead too

More subtle and refined than a couple of years ago, time has served it well and will continue to do so. Red and black fruit, touch of blue, hint of spice. The kind of wine that will disappear quickly, a case purchase for certain.

This was another incredible bottle of this. It's amazing how each bottle I open is even better than the last. This is great drinking now with a decant and will last for many more years. I am very happy I have a lot of these stashed and I will try my best to drink only 1-2 a year. I would love to see this wine with 5-10 more years on it.

Another year goes by and I am trying again. This is now much more open. It will certainly improve with time but finally not so austere. Killer stuff. Glad I have a case left. This is is easily a 10 year plus bojo.

Ruby center, watery edge. Wonderful spice, wintergreen, and red fruit aromas. Medium to light weight, earthy base, and glycerine in a way that is rare for Beaujolais. Just delicious, impossibly fresh strawberries, a clutch of spices, a dab of licorice, and a properly tart, dusty finish. I have loved this from the start, but it has unfurled beautifully, retaining its gorgeous deep fruit while shedding an early sense of over concentration. It remains one of the handful of truly great …

The nose is simple and straightforward, ripe summer cherry and light garrigue. M+ acidity, tannins very smooth and soft, but still there. Relatively staid again on the palate, but wins you over with the spectacular purity of the fruit coupled with a super clean ferment. Red berry compote rolls over into mineral nuance, following into a consistent medium finish, vibrant and welcoming throughout. Lapierre is not my favorite producer, but this bottle is a tour de force of their style's …

Opened and paired with grilled chicken and mixed salad. Cloudy purple with a crimson hue. Floral nose brings purple lavender, red roses, nutmeg, cinnamon spices, and orange peel. The palate is medium-large, square, and compact, bringing a hard core of raspberries and sour rhubarb followed by high-toned pomegranate/cherry notes, wood smoke, and black tea into a tannic finish. This will be best 2026-2036. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

This was sleeping in the cellar for quite a long time, so I decided to crack it open finally. Moderate ruby in the glass. Has some ripeness on the nose, so I was scared it’ll be like that on the palate as well. But alas, this is such a well-knit wine. It’s powerful, but has this silky elegance to it - a balance that only the best Beaujolais producers can achieve. Can’t really compare with anything, especially not Burgundian Pinot …

Plum, blueberry, raspberry, violets, licorice, cinnamon, nutmeg, crushed gravel on the finish. Decanted for 90 minutes before dinner. Paired with citrus and garam masala roasted goose. Just impeccable balance with a super long finish. So much more going on than I can describe right now, but just a spectacular wine. Paired just perfect with the goose. (Had for Christmas dinner, just getting around to posting notes)

Aged Cru Beaujolais (San Francisco) : Primary ruby color. Captivating scent of fresh, sweet, deep dark red fruit. Heady, layered red and black fruit carried by bright acidity and an excellent earthy tannic finish. Wow! I remember this wine being controversial when it was young since it was "too rich, too big, etc.". Not only was it the wine of the tasting, but it is one of the more remarkable wines I've drunk this year. Legendary stuff.

Lapierre is one of the jewels in Morgon and one of the most well regarded names in Beaujolais, also one of the so-called prestigious organic and biodynamic group of winemakers Gang of four. Made from a century old vines. Medium purple colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of cherries, strawberries, violets, pomegranates. Medium body, elegant and refined texture with lively structure and harmonious balance. Intense juicy and fleshy fresh flavours of red fruits, floral and earthy notes, medium- silky tannins.

This is exceedingly ripe - frankly overripe - and lacking in acid. Tastes like Russian River pinot, but TBH, Russian River pinot would be holding up better at this age. The regular cuvee - which I have had many times - is so much better at this stage in their development. This, by contrast, is syrupy and atypical. We dumped.

Served to me blind. I had no idea what it was, having had it before. It's very ripe, almost grapey in profile, and deficient in acid, so that the silky fruit feels a bit heavy and flabby. Disappointing.

My expectations were relatively low given others' notes. I fall in line with most, but I will say I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Negatives: It's ripe (by cru Beaujolais standards, of course); it lacks a bit of verve; it certainly does not justify its price tag over the normal cuvee, at least not in this vintage. Positives: It's not overblown; it's clearly still a Lapierre; it's pretty damn tasty. Wouldn't recommending buying or continuing to hold, but …

Not tired at all and has evolved nicely. However I preferred the normal cuvée when it was a bit younger. This is a tad too ripe to my taste and I would only buy this cuvée in less ripe vintages where the extra body and ripeness from this selection make sense to my tastebuds.

Deep red. Swirling, spicy red fruit aromas. Middle weight and sappy-very Burgundian feel. Gorgeous ripe red berry fruit without any of the slightly syrupy quality it showed early on; this has developed beautifully! It finishes with rich, chocolatey tannins and orange peel. Simply a stunner and as good as Gamay gets (and I don't mean this in the pejorative sense either).

Light red in color. 14.5% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, iron, earth and flowers. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Crisp and refreshing. Cherries, blood orange, spice and minerals on the palate. Fantastic Beaujolais that is absolutely shining at 12 years of age. What a treat. Best over the next 2-3 years.

See DrWine2001's note - spot on. This wine was ponderous and fatiguing early on, but a decade sideways has transformed it into a really stellar example of how serious Beaujolais can be. I was originally disappointed by it - now I'm delighted to have a few more bottles to enjoy.

Ruby center. Effusive aromas of ripe cherries and herbs. Amazing sappiness and depth for Gamay. Beautiful red and blue fruit with soil running through it. Not nearly as ponderous and overripe as it seemed early on. This is the second superb bottle of this I've had this year. It is turning out to be a truly monumental Beaujolais.

Ruby center. Strong black cherry fruit offset by some herbal notes. This does not have the tangy cranberry acidity of typical Beaujolais. Surely quite deep and concentrated for Gamay, but not as exuberant or alcoholic as the last bottle I had, much to the benefit of the wine tonight. The volume of fruit is pretty incredible. Really excellent, and bottles in this condition still have miles to go.

Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Beautiful nose of red fruits, earth, flowers and minerals. Medium body with ample acidity. Earthy with a rustic elegance. Cherries, soil, blood and mushrooms on the palate. Medium length on the finish. The nose on this wine is stunning but the rest of the package is not markedly different than the regular bottling. I was hoping for more from Cuvee Marcel in a stellar vintage. Drink over the next several years.

Eclectic Older Wines from the Rare Wine Company with Mannie Berk (The Morris, San Francisco) : Ruby with slight fading. Super ripe cherry nose. Sappy, late earth. No lack of stuffing here. More obviously alcoholic and overripe than the Foillard 3.14 I had the other night. I much preferred that wine.

Deeper color than the regular cuvée. Spicy red fruit on the nose and palate. This is much more toned down and elegant than the last time I had it, but it still possesses quite a tannic punch and fine acidity for the year. Quite a Beaujolais cru.

On release this was blatantly jammy and over-the-top, could have been labeled I Can't Believe It's Not California. Still showing plenty of that with dark fruit and a raisined sur-maturite that fortunately mellows out with a few hours' decanting. Much better than it used to be, but not (yet?) at a point where you could say, "see, just needed time!"

My first go at this wine and imo this is really not a classic Beaujolais experience, but is certainly an impressive wine. The concentration and dark fruit depth are quite amazing for the region but not overly done in the sense of big wines in general. No way I’d pick this out blind though, I’d probably guess medium weight Syrah or something? This will go another 10-15 years easy as it didn’t show much development but was certainly approachable now. …

Yikes, am I happy I opened this before bringing it to dinner tonight. After a hint of brett on the nose, fairly deep cherry fruit, and then, BAM, the most vile, mousey/moldy finish that took 30 minutes to get out of my mouth after one small sip despite copious irrigation and multiple rounds of mouthwash. Stored impeccably, Coravined a couple of months ago; had a glass then, drunk the rest now. Decanted for a couple of hours because the nose is very reticent right off the bat. Again the palate is a bit Rhoneish - smooth, dark flavors and some alcohol is evident. But this thing is somehow still shut down or just such an introverted type that it doesn't give much of an impact on the palate or elsewhere. Sort of smooth and perhaps …

Stored pretty much perfectly until opening, decanted for 3 hours. When sipped directly after opening this was very closed down - the palate makes a slow crescendo from almost nothing. Long finish. After 3 hours (and warming to about 18 C) the nose is deep and smooth, and the palate is still not totally open for business in the way one would assume a Bojo (which this still is!) to be. 2009 is a completely atypical Beaujolais vintage and one that I did not personally like. That said, I could recognize that certain wines were outstanding, nonetheless. This was the only bottle from the vintage that I cellared. If I were free to choose a Beaujolais that I liked, this would not be in my top 1000 choices.
