Delightful nose of berries on opening. Taste on opening showing great balance, berries & a little spice. Good length of flavour. Look forward to drinking after 5 hour breathe in the bottle

Decent RdM with typical sour cherries but nothing special.

Quite pale, translucent ruby colour. There's a distinctly herbal, stalky nose that I hoped would blow off with air, but didn't. On the palate it begins to round and fill out after several hours, but ultimately it's a bit thin, green and tough. Maybe needs another 5 years, but not for me.

Savoury driven nose with dried herbs and earth over ripe red cherry. Good freshness and fine tannins. Holds the 15% alcohol well with good balance. Drink now or hold.

Red cherry, under-brush, coffee, blood orange, cloves. Juicy and rounded. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium to medium plus finish. 15% alcohol but well balanced. Very enjoyable to drink now!

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis) and cranberry. It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), stoniness, oak and cinnamon. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

This is the first Sopra that I have been longing for. I thought it would be quite harsh because it is the current vintage, but it turned out to be quite drinkable, probably because it is a Rosso di Montalcino. It has a grip and ironiness that is more like black fruit than red …

Quality Rosso: very definitely a wine from Montalcino with a depth and gloss to the saturated cherry fruit, dusty earth and a slight balsamic note. Focused and quite tight at the moment, this has proper structure and I'm sure another couple of years would see this improving.

Hard to add much to the recent reviews. A very modest effort for a Brunello, IMHO. Well made, but not much to recommend it otherwise. Many other wines that I would choose for the money. Opens up some with a decant and solid on day two, although not improved.

Pale ruby. Strawberries, redcurrants, hint of spice nose. Light bodied, medium finish, medium tannins. Red fruits palate, not a great deal else. A little disappointed to be honest. Ok, but certainly not great, personally wouldn’t predict improvement.

Still too young. Lot of acid and tannins and limited fruit, despite 10 hrs in decanter.

Nose of iron, dark cherry, herbs. Soft and approachable on the palate like many 2014s. A little light through the mid-palate and the finish is a little watery but the vintage has been balanced. For me, this is ok to drink and I generally like the charm of such a vintage but it is one on the borderline. I could see some framing this wine as weedy or underpowered.

Unloke previous tasters, I wasn't as impressed. Firstly, the wine is very young, meaning it's still on its fruit and not having developed much of its character. Secondly, I don't perceive this as "solid". It may be proper to blame the vintage. There are cherries everywhere and the fruit is grumpily kept tight by the acids. Tannins are in the lower register. The wine finishes a little short and there's a glitch in the mid-palate. Delicious with the beef and …

Solid effort here. Purity and silkiness are apparent here, much like Biondi Santi, medium bodied and loaded with tart cherry and cassis. I really like this wine, great QPR $45! Nice on the finish with a bit of tobacco towards the close. I can only imagine how the riserva must be!

Day 1: I don't remember why I bought this. I paid $52 for it. It is like a muscle car with a small engine. It has many of the elements of a successful Brunello -- a fine tannic structure, enjoyably astringent cherry/cherry-pit flavors, a long pleasantly bitter aftertaste, which culminates with burnt notes -- but it is underpowered, almost watery. This bottle was not over the hill. Day 3: I have somewhat revised my initial estimate, because, on day 3, …

My first Canalicchio di Sopra: dark fruit, dried fruit, balsamic note, fig, muchroom, forrest earth, licorice, nice acidity, medium body, nice long finish. At the end of its drinking window, drink up

A solid effort, and one that will improve (some) from here. Darker brick red, clear. The nose, and palate, are rich, full, and the acids are, not unexpectedly, fresh and vigorous lending a stable core from which this wine will evolve further. 15k bottles produced; 14,0% abv. While not terrible, this bottle was oxidized, so we'll use it for cooking at a later time. It's very sherry-like, but not my style.

Just as lovely as the bottle consumed about 2 weeks ago. It was quite tasty from the decant, but continued to evolve when we finished it 4 hours later. Very light on its feet (not the weight of traditional BdM), but the dried red fruits, tobacco, and spice notes are carried on an elegant and soft frame. Given the price paid ($30) through WTSO, I wish that I'd bought more than 3 bottles.

(Bottle Sample) The nose was restrained at first, slowly opening to reveal notes of dried cherry with wild herbs, minerals and hints of animal musk. On the palate, I found a textural experience, as waves of silk seemed to overlay gruff tannin, with notes of black cherry and sweet spice, propelled forward by zesty acidity. The finish was medium-long, showing a twang of wild herbs and tannin, as minerals and savory spices lingered. This note was taken from bottle, and …

Really a nice and elegant Brunello, especially considering the vintage. Very soft and integrated. Ripe cherry, strawberry, cigar box, wet soil. Garnet all the way through. Very nice sweet finish, as opposed to many other 2009s that have been tart and sour.

Gorgeous wine drinking beautifullay right now. Bouquet of leather and dry cherry. On the pallete, I was struck by the softness and balance of the wine. Fruit was more supple than the bouquet. I got perfectly ripe cherry, gentle dark chocolate and vailla perfectly wrapped up together. Great length. Hard to put down the glass. Enjoy in solitude or with your significant other.

Classic Brunello with beautiful red fruits and all the right earthy tones in balance. The tannins are well integrated for a young Brunello but that seems to be the norm these days. I don't have a clue if these newer wine will age for 20 years but who cares when they drink so well young.

Good color. The nose shows round succulent berries, tobacco, oak, and a hint of flowers. This is medium full bodied on the palate, with good concentration and very good finesse. The medium plus length finish shows elegant tannins and medium high acidity.

Benvenuto Brunello - Toronto 2014 (Toronto, ON) : This wine strikes me as middle of the road, maybe leaning a bit traditional. Pours with a ruby core and some orange and brick toward the edges. Note is maturing with meaty grilled mushroom notes but also sweet dark cherries in syrup. Palate has adequate acid and elevated tannin. It finishes a bit drying and touch short. Still a wine of respectable quality all in all.

The nose showed sweet spice, red berry and wood spice, turning darker and more inviting with time in the glass, morphing to tobacco notes. On the palate, ripe red fruits and spice rushed the senses, yet it was lacking any serious depth and structure. The finish followed suit with tart berry flavors clinging to the palate.

Drank the 2010. Very inky and thick. Felt like a big wine with black berries. Long tail.
